Amid the lush landscape of Madagui, the Thien Ma-Madagui Horse and Greyhound Racing Complex, Polo and Performance Horse Club is gradually taking shape. The project is envisioned as a “breeding ground” for Vietnam’s horse racing industry while introducing a new entertainment and tourism model to Lam Dong.

The project is expected to create approximately 3,000 jobs for local workers.

More than just infrastructure, the project carries a long-term ambition: linking economic development with high-performance sport, connecting experiential tourism with sustainable local livelihoods, and positioning Lam Dong as a pioneer in horse racing and equestrian sports in Vietnam.

A new movation for tourism - sport

As one of the 12 key projects under the Lam Dong Province Development Plan for 2021-2030 (with a vision to 2050), approved by the Prime Minister on December 29, 2023, the project reflects the province’s strategic vision to diversify growth drivers and tap into emerging tourism and entertainment trends.

In February 2025, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh signed Decision No. 371/QD-TTg approving the investment policy, including regulated horse and greyhound betting operations. Subsequent planning adjustments have paved the way for synchronized infrastructure development.

Upon completion, three major projects-the Thien Ma - Madagui racing complex, the Da Huoai Racehorse Training and Tourism Center, and a golf course—are expected to generate around 3,000 local jobs. Beyond budget contributions, they aim to form a diversified tourism–sport–entertainment ecosystem, extend visitor stays, and enhance Lam Dong’s competitiveness through distinctive, high-value experiences.

Modern travelers increasingly seek interactive and unique activities. Horse racing, polo, equestrian performances, and riding experiences in Madagui are expected to become dynamic new highlights, complementing Lam Dong’s reputation for its mild climate and scenic beauty.

On the Lam Dong Plateau, from the first foundations laid in Madagui, a new sport and form of entertainment is gradually taking shape.

Aspiration to lead Vietnam’s horse racing

Equestrian sport has been part of the SEA Games since the 12th edition in Singapore. However, Vietnam has yet to participate, reflecting limitations in facilities, professional training systems, and organizational structures.

Although various equestrian clubs exist domestically, the lack of international-standard venues, structured athlete and coach training, and a dedicated national federation has hindered development. Recognizing this gap, Nguyen Ngoc My, Chairman of Thien Ma – Madagui Horse Racing JSC, has proposed establishing a Vietnam Federation for Performance Horses, Polo, and Horse Racing to unify clubs nationwide and prepare for regional and international competition.

Madagui is set to be the starting point. Plans include hosting Eventing competitions—comprising Dressage, Jumping, and Cross Country—combining sport, performance, and tourism into a compelling experiential product for both domestic and international visitors.

Parallel to sporting development is a strategy to train high-quality human resources in veterinary science and animal husbandry. The company has partnered with HUTECH’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, the University of Saskatchewan (Canada), and Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry. This university–enterprise collaboration model provides students with modern, hands-on training while building a skilled workforce to support projects in Lam Dong.

The initiative also aims to socialize horse breeding, linking sport and tourism development with sustainable livelihoods for local communities, particularly ethnic minorities. By utilizing available agricultural land and diversifying income sources, the project is expected to open new economic pathways.

With a long-term vision, structured implementation, and coordinated support from authorities, businesses, and residents, Lam Dong is poised to lead the development of horse racing in Vietnam—creating new momentum for tourism, economic growth, and the province’s future standing.

As the Year of the Horse 2026 evokes symbols of strength, endurance, and aspiration, the foundations laid in Madagui signal the emergence of a new sport and entertainment industry on the Lam Dong Plateau.
