A Bridge of Compassion for People with Disabilities
For many years in Lam Dong Province, the Provincial Association of People with Disabilities has served as a vital bridge of compassion, connecting organizations, businesses, benefactors and individuals to deliver practical support that helps its members gain confidence, overcome difficulties and integrate into the community.

Mr. Tran Manh Thu, Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial Association of People with Disabilities, said that the association has implemented numerous practical programs to support its members, ranging from mobility assistance, Tet gifts, and free medical check-ups and treatment to vocational training, sports activities and cultural and artistic programs. “These initiatives help people with disabilities build confidence, unlock their potential and live more positive, independent lives,” he noted.
From early 2024 through the first half of 2025, the association distributed more than 6,250 gift packages worth over 6.2 billion VND, helping members enjoy warmer Tet holidays and receive timely assistance during difficult times. Notably, the “God of Wealth Knocks on the Door” program provided capital support totaling 680 million VND to 17 members, enabling people with disabilities to develop livelihoods, achieve self-reliance and improve their quality of life.
Member-care activities at the grassroots level have also been implemented in a coordinated manner. In Da Lat, the association organizes monthly birthday gifts, visits members during illness or bereavement, mobilizes thousands of gift packages, and supports school tuition for members’ children. In communes and wards, local chapters maintain internal mutual-support funds, provide assistance with transportation and daily living, and establish cultural performance groups to raise funds—bringing joy while also supporting members with severe illnesses.
“Alongside healthcare support, creating opportunities for education and employment for people with disabilities remains a top priority at all levels of the association,” Mr. Tran Manh Thu emphasized.
Since early 2024, the association has mobilized and distributed more than 230 wheelchairs, 45 hand-powered tricycles and nearly 160 other medical devices, helping members move more easily, manage daily life and engage in economic activities. Free medical examinations, prosthetic limb provision, orthopedic treatment and rehabilitation programs have been carried out regularly. Students with disabilities are also supported with transportation to school, ensuring equal access to education.
Vocational training and job creation have received particular attention. In the Da Lat area, many members have created home-based jobs such as knitting, embroidery, electronics repair and gardening. A standout initiative is the “Skilled Hands of Da Lat” project, which supports the production of scented candles, embroidered artwork and stuffed toys. In Bao Loc 2 Ward, the community café “Khuyet” provides employment opportunities while raising public awareness about people with disabilities. Additionally, many commune and ward-level associations maintain handicraft workshops and vocational classes, helping members secure stable incomes.
Marking the 33rd anniversary of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the association co-organized a fundraising cultural night titled “Songs from the Heart” to support members facing extreme hardship, serious illness and unaffordable medical expenses. “This annual activity not only provides material assistance but also strengthens faith, resilience and hope for people with disabilities,” Mr. Tran Manh Thu said.
Looking ahead, while continuing to build on achieved results, the Chairman emphasized that the association will focus on strengthening organizational stability, establishing disability associations in communes, wards and special administrative areas, and developing a province-wide support network. “Our goal is to provide timely and comprehensive care for all members, enabling them to live confidently, learn, develop and contribute positively to the community and society,” he said.
