Timeless Architectural Beauty

After almost 100 years, the college still retains its distinctive charm in its windows, stairways and tiled roofs, an enduring blend of functionality and aesthetics. In 2000, the building was recognized by the International Union of Architects (UIA) as one of the world’s 1,000 exemplary architectural works of the 20th century. A year later, it was officially designated a National Architectural and Historical Relic.

Beyond its educational role, the site has become an attractive destination for visitors. However, the passage of time has led to deterioration in several components, making restoration necessary.

The ongoing renovation includes replacing damaged floors and roofs, reinforcing wooden structures, upgrading doors and technical systems, and improving fire prevention and safety facilities. Internal roads and courtyards are being refurbished with eco-friendly hexagonal pavers and green landscaping to maintain harmony with the original architecture.

Restoration with a Focus on Authentic Preservation

In accordance with Decision No. 1089/QĐ-UBND dated June 28, 2024, issued by the Lam Dong Provincial People’s Committee, the restoration project is being implemented from 2024 to 2026 with a total investment of VND 42.5 billion. The project aims to preserve the relic’s value while improving facilities to serve post-merger training activities.

Key components, including Hall A and the internal corridor system—core elements of the national heritage dossier—are being restored in strict compliance with preservation principles to ensure that original features remain intact.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Loc, Director of the Lam Dong Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, cultural authorities have closely monitored the project from planning to construction, ensuring full compliance with the Law on Cultural Heritage. Restoration materials are carefully selected to match the original texture and colors, thereby preserving the site’s historical authenticity.

The renovation of Da Lat College is not merely a technical solution to prevent deterioration, but a clear demonstration of responsibility in safeguarding and promoting a valuable architectural and cultural heritage for future generations.
