Compassionate Tet Brings Warmth to Thousands in Lam Dong
Over the years, millions of gifts have been delivered through the “Compassionate Tet” movement, spreading humanitarian values and solidarity across communities, especially during the Lunar New Year season.

Delivering Care to Vulnerable Communities
The 2026 Compassionate Tet campaign, launched nationwide by the Viet Nam Red Cross Society, aims to support people with disabilities, elderly individuals living alone, orphans, disaster-affected households and others facing hardship. The nationwide target is 1.5 million Tet gift packages worth VND750 billion, helping ensure a warm and inclusive holiday season.
In Lam Dong Province, the local Red Cross plans to implement activities from January 15 to February 10, 2026, including a “Compassionate Tet Week” at the grassroots level. The province targets 55,800 gift packages valued at nearly VND28 billion.
Nguyen Quang Minh, Chairman of the provincial Red Cross Society, said the program will include one central-level event, three provincial programs and a “Border Spring” initiative, each distributing at least 500 gift packages worth no less than VND500,000 each.

At the commune level, humanitarian initiatives are expanding. In Duc Trong Commune, local Red Cross volunteers plan to distribute at least 1,800 gifts and organize two “Zero-cost Tet Markets” to support disadvantaged households, disaster-affected families and people facing sudden hardship.

No One Left Behind
Currently, only six out of 124 communes and wards in the province have established Red Cross branches, posing organizational challenges. Provincial authorities have therefore called on local administrations to coordinate resource mobilization and beneficiary identification to ensure fair and transparent distribution.
Alongside institutional efforts, many individuals continue to contribute quietly to humanitarian work. Nguyen Thi Ngoc of Xuan Huong - Da Lat Ward, recognized at the 11th National Patriotic Emulation Congress in 2025, has spent 37 years supporting vulnerable communities. Each Tet, she and her volunteer group deliver gifts to disadvantaged families, embodying the spirit of compassion and social responsibility.

One of the beneficiaries is Huy Hoang, a ninth-grade student in Da Lat who lives with his elderly grandmother, who uses a wheelchair. Every year, Compassionate Tet gifts help ease the family’s financial burden, allowing them to welcome the holiday with greater hope.
A Community-Driven Humanitarian Movement
According to provincial Red Cross leaders, the Compassionate Tet program reflects strong participation from government agencies, businesses and donors, united by the message: “Leave no one behind.”

A key innovation in 2026 is the introduction of grassroots “Compassionate Tet Weeks,” featuring gift-giving, cultural activities, traditional games and community events. Each locality is required to provide at least 500 gift packages, ensuring that all supported beneficiaries receive assistance during the Lunar New Year.
