Da Lat Emerges as a Year-Round Events Destination

Major events drive tourism growth

In early June, the area surrounding Xuan Huong Lake—the heart of Da Lat—came alive as 4,700 runners joined the 2026 Dalat Music Night Run. According to the organizers, the event's fifth edition attracted more than 4,700 athletes and approximately 10,000 accompanying family members and friends, bringing nearly 15,000 visitors to the city center. Notably, the event took place while Lien Khuong Airport was undergoing upgrades, meaning all participants traveled to Da Lat by road.

More recently, the opening ceremony of the Regional Round III People's Public Security Military, Martial Arts and Sports Festival at Lam Vien Square drew thousands of residents and visitors. Crowds gathered from early afternoon to secure seats, and the grandstands were nearly full before the ceremony began. Organizers estimated attendance at more than 15,000 people.

Ngo Manh Cuong, a visitor from Can Tho, said the four-hour wait was well worth it.

"Da Lat's beautiful weather and the spectacular performances made the experience unforgettable. That's why we always arrange our schedule to attend Da Lat's major events," he said.

While visitors once traveled to Da Lat primarily for sightseeing, relaxation and its refreshing climate, many now plan their trips specifically to participate in marathons, festivals or cultural performances. Events are increasingly becoming a distinctive tourism product that enhances Da Lat's appeal.

The Da Lat Flower Festival remains the most prominent example. According to the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, after 10 successful editions, the festival has evolved from a celebration of the flower industry into a nationally recognized cultural and tourism brand. Through artistic performances, floral exhibitions, trade promotion activities and local product showcases, the festival has significantly enhanced the image of Da Lat and Lam Dong Province.

Beyond tourism, these events stimulate spending across accommodation, dining, transportation and local experiences. Each event drawing tens of thousands of visitors generates substantial economic benefits, making large-scale events increasingly important drivers of tourism growth.

Building a year-round events destination

Behind every successful large-scale event is increasingly professional planning by organizers and local authorities. During meetings on major event preparations, Vice Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee Dinh Van Tuan has consistently instructed departments and local authorities to ensure high standards of organization, public security, safety and visitor services.

According to the provincial leader, the success of an event should be measured not only by attendance but also by the quality of visitors it attracts. He cited The Rose, a concert by singer Ha Anh Tuan held at Da Lat Stadium in January 2026, which drew around 15,000 spectators. Most visitors came from outside the province, with strong spending power and demand for high-end accommodation and diverse tourism services. Such events generate positive media coverage while directly benefiting the local tourism and service sectors.

Based on these positive outcomes, Lam Dong Province will continue attracting high-quality cultural, sporting and entertainment events with broad public appeal. The province is also committed to creating favorable conditions for businesses and organizers to bring more prestigious programs to Da Lat.

For privately organized events, local authorities will continue acting as supportive partners while ensuring compliance with legal regulations. Alongside content management, agencies will facilitate administrative procedures, licensing, security, traffic management and other essential services to ensure successful event delivery.

Another major advantage is Da Lat's designation by UNESCO as a Creative City of Music. Beyond international recognition, the title provides new opportunities to develop innovative cultural products, particularly music festivals, artistic performances and creative tourism experiences.

Lam Dong's long-term vision extends beyond hosting individual flagship events. The province aims to transform Da Lat into a year-round event destination where visitors can continually enjoy cultural, sporting, musical and entertainment activities while businesses expand investment opportunities and tourism services. With improvements in infrastructure, event venues and supportive policies, this vision is steadily becoming a reality, creating new momentum for the sustainable development of tourism, culture and the local economy.
