Da Lat Flower Festival Expands Into a Creative Cultural Space
For more than two decades, the Da Lat Flower Festival has evolved beyond a celebration of flowers to become a distinctive cultural and tourism brand of Da Lat and Lam Dong. Across 10 editions, the festival has continuously expanded its spaces, themes and formats, increasingly connecting flowers with culture, the arts, agriculture and tourism. In 2026, the 11th Da Lat Flower Festival will continue that journey under the theme “Da Lat – A Harmony of Flowers and Music.”

From a celebration of flowers
The first Da Lat Flower Festival was held in December 2005 under the theme “Da Lat – A Rendezvous of Thousands of Flowers.” From a relatively new event, the festival quickly made an impression on visitors, offering a platform to showcase the beauty of flowers, local people and the highland destination.
Subsequent editions gradually broadened the story around flowers. In 2007, the theme “Da Lat Flowers – I Love You” turned affection for flowers into the festival’s central message. In 2010, “Da Lat – The City of Thousands of Flowers” further reinforced the image of the highland destination through a wide range of cultural and tourism activities.
While the early editions focused primarily on honoring flowers and promoting Da Lat, the fourth festival, held during the 2011–2012 transition period, marked a significant expansion in scale. More than 300,000 visitors attended, demonstrating the festival’s growing appeal as a tourism product.
Since then, flowers have appeared not only in artistic performances but also as a storytelling medium for the land, its agricultural production and its cultural identity.

Expanding spaces, creating new experiences
The fifth edition in 2013 marked a clearer shift in content. Under the theme “The Central Highlands – Echoes of the Great Mountains,” the festival was linked with the 120th anniversary of Da Lat and the 2014 National Tourism Year themed "Central Highlands – Da Lat."

Subsequent editions continued to expand the range of values presented to visitors. Themes such as “Da Lat – A Kaleidoscope of Flowers” in 2015–2016, “Da Lat Flowers – A Miraculous Essence from Fertile Land” in 2017, and “Da Lat and Flowers” in 2019 reflected the festival’s move beyond traditional central venues.
Floral spaces expanded into traditional flower villages, residential areas and locations closely associated with local production. Cultural activities, tea, agriculture and local products were gradually incorporated into the program, creating experiences beyond flower viewing.
This marked a transition from organizing a single event to building a broader experience-driven cultural space.
The ninth Da Lat Flower Festival in 2022, themed “Da Lat – The City of Flowers in All Four Seasons,” extended the festival over two months. Rather than concentrating activities into a few peak days, the festival became a longer series of cultural, artistic, commercial and tourism events.

In 2024, the 10th Da Lat Flower Festival adopted the theme “Da Lat Flowers – A Symphony of Colors.” Flowers were increasingly presented in connection with music, the arts, agriculture and tourism, while helping promote Da Lat, Lam Dong and the values nurtured by its fertile land.
“A harmony” for a new chapter
The 11th Da Lat Flower Festival in 2026 will build on this journey while adopting a broader vision under the theme “Da Lat – A Harmony of Flowers and Music.”

According to the plan approved by the Lam Dong provincial government, the 2026 festival will be organized across the province, with activities held across Lam Dong throughout the year and major programs concentrated in December. This is a notable change, as the festival will no longer be viewed solely as an event associated with Da Lat but as a cultural and tourism space involving localities across the province.
Festival spaces will also be expanded through connections among urban landscapes, flowers, indigenous culture and the arts. Streets, areas around Xuan Huong Lake, public spaces and cultural venues will be redecorated and revitalized with flowers, lighting and artistic installations.
The 11th festival will feature 11 major programs, including floral displays; an international exhibition of flowers and ornamental plants; the 2026 Vietnam Jazz Festival; carnival programs; the third Vietnam Brocade Culture Festival; a tea, coffee and wine space; a vegetable and flower market; and activities promoting local products.

The inclusion of the 2026 Vietnam Jazz Festival as a major program brings a new dimension to the Da Lat Flower Festival. From an event centered on flowers, the festival is increasingly seeking to create a dialogue between the colors of nature and the language of music.
The opening ceremony of the 11th Da Lat Flower Festival is scheduled for 8 p.m. on December 19, 2026, at Lam Vien Square. A New Year 2027 art program, combined with the festival’s closing ceremony, will take place at the same venue on the evening of December 31, 2026.
When flowers become the story of a destination
One of the most notable changes in the history of the Da Lat Flower Festival has been the growing role of the community.

In 2026, local residents, agencies, schools, businesses and accommodation providers will again be encouraged to plant and care for flowers and greenery, develop flower-lined streets, green schools and attractive public spaces. As a result, the festival will not be confined to stages and official venues but will become part of everyday life.
This approach also creates a different experience for visitors. When streets, residential areas, flower villages, tourist attractions and public spaces are connected through flowers, the entire destination becomes part of the festival.
From a tourism perspective, the value of the festival therefore goes beyond the number of visitors during the event itself. More importantly, it lies in its ability to create new tourism products, expand the visitor experience and encourage longer stays.

From flower fields and traditional flower villages to artistic performances, cuisine, tea, coffee, brocade and music, the festival is gradually building an experience ecosystem rooted in the identity of Da Lat and Lam Dong.
Moving toward a creative destination
The 11th Da Lat Flower Festival is not simply about promoting the image of a destination known for its flowers. According to the plan, one of its key objectives is to reinforce Da Lat’s position as a UNESCO Creative City of Music, while creating opportunities for artists, businesses, flower growers and domestic and international visitors to connect and exchange.

From flowers to music, agriculture to tourism, urban spaces to communities, the festival is broadening its story in increasingly diverse ways.
This is the journey the Da Lat Flower Festival has taken over more than two decades: from an event showcasing distinctive flowers to a cultural and tourism platform capable of connecting many of the destination’s defining values.
In 2026, “A Harmony of Flowers and Music” is expected to open a new chapter in that journey. Flowers will remain at the heart of the festival, but the story will reach further — encompassing people, culture, creativity, agriculture and a destination that is steadily strengthening its position on the international tourism map.
