Da Lat in Persimmon Season – Autumn Colors that Captivate Travelers

From late September to early October, Da Lat’s persimmon gardens enter peak ripening season. The golden-orange and crimson hues glowing under the autumn sun have become a signature sight of the Lam Dong highlands — drawing visitors to wander, taste, and even hand-pick the fruit directly from the trees.

Right in the city center, “Quan cua Thoi Thanh Xuan” (9B Trieu Viet Vuong, Xuan Huong - Da Lat Ward) has become a beloved stop for travelers seeking a warm cup of coffee amidst a misty autumn morning.

The café is known for its hearing-impaired staff — part of a meaningful social project — but what makes it iconic are the two 40-year-old persimmon trees in its courtyard. Since the garden was renovated in 2024, the trees have flourished, their wide canopies glowing with ripe fruit each autumn. Guests are often gifted a fresh persimmon as a small keepsake when they visit.

Step outside the city — into real persimmon orchards

A few kilometers away, “Rung Nhiet Doi” Café (alley 63, Prenn Pass, Xuan Huong- Da Lat Ward) owns a 3,000 m² garden with around 50 persimmon trees aged 30–35 years.

The owner, Nguyen Thi Kim Trieu, returned to Da Lat in 2006 after years in Ho Chi Minh City, simply wanting to live closer to nature. In 2021, a video she casually posted on TikTok — showing tree branches heavy with ripe fruit — suddenly went viral, prompting visitors from everywhere to come looking for the garden. That was when she decided to open it to the public.

The persimmons are naturally grown — no chemicals used — and guests are free to pick and eat them fresh from the tree. The garden now also offers hands-on sessions on making crunchy dried persimmons, wind-dried hoshigaki, and identifying local Da Lat cultivars.

A “persimmon forest” in Tram Hanh

Thirty to forty kilometers from the city center, the Le Phuc family’s persimmon farm in Tram Hanh (Xuan Truong- Da Lat Ward) feels like stepping into a fairytale.

The two-hectare garden holds nearly 200 persimmon trees — some over 100 years old — originally planted by the owner’s father in his early pioneering days. The garden sits along a sloping mountainside overlooking pine forests, valleys, village rooftops, and the shimmering Da Nhim Hydropower Plant in the distance.

Officially recognized in 2024 as an agri-tourism destination, the family has since added a café, campsites, fire-lit evening gatherings, and persimmon harvesting tours. Despite its remote location, the site continues to draw a steady stream of travelers each autumn — proof that Da Lat’s persimmon season remains one of its most enchanting calls.
