Dalat in Bloom: Spring Arrives on Urban Streets
Amid the familiar chill of the Central Highlands in the days leading up to the Lunar New Year, Da Lat enters its most beautiful season of the year as flowers leave the gardens to grace the urban areas. From flower markets to private doorsteps, blossoms spread across the landscape, slowing the everyday pace of life and signaling that spring is near—a season of hope, abundance, and peaceful new beginnings.

A Rush of Flower Trucks Before Tet
From early morning, flower-growing villages are already bustling. Growers harvest, bundle, and load blooms onto trucks, racing against time to deliver them to the urban areas. One truck after another heads toward central wards, carrying the distinctive colors and fragrances of Da Lat.

Along major streets, flower stalls quickly take shape, turning the highland urban area into a vibrant canvas of color. Flowers arriving in town are not merely commodities; they carry the breath of spring into every corner of urban life.

People slow down amid traffic to choose a few stems for Tet, placing their hopes for a calm and prosperous new year in each bouquet.

Visitors stroll leisurely along the streets, admiring the vivid displays and capturing moments of Da Lat as it slips into spring.

Busy transporting peach blossoms to town, longtime flower vendor Cam Mau Hoanh shared: “Every Tet season is more demanding than usual, but seeing flowers from my garden displayed across the urban area and warmly welcomed by locals and tourists makes it worthwhile. When flowers fill the streets, you know Tet is very close. Prices are reasonable this year, so I’m hoping for better sales than last year.”

Alongside peach blossoms, ornamental kumquat trees remain a popular Tet choice for many families. At a kumquat stall in a central ward, Pham Kim Giang—who has been in the trade for many years—said this year’s market is favorable, with attractive trees in diverse shapes and styles, offered at affordable prices.

Behind the vibrant street scenes is the busy yet hopeful rhythm of flower villages on the outskirts of the urban area as Tet approaches. In Lam Vien Ward, Da Lat—home to many households with generations-long ties to chrysanthemum farming—these days bring an especially intense pace of work.

From early morning until late afternoon, growers carefully tend their fields, selecting the finest blooms to ensure timely delivery for the Tet market.
Nguyen Van Son, a chrysanthemum farmer in Lam Vien - Da Lat Ward, said weather conditions this year have been more favorable, allowing flowers to grow evenly with bright colors and large, long-lasting blooms. “Chrysanthemums look great this year, are easy to sell, and prices are more stable than last year, so farmers are really optimistic ,” Son said.

Smooth sales not only help cover production costs, he added, but also reinforce hopes for a warm and fulfilling Tet after months of hard work in the fields.

Beyond traditional flowers, succulents continue to gain popularity as a modern Tet decoration, especially among young people and families.

At Van Thanh Flower Village in Cam Ly Ward, Luu Duc Tho, owner of a succulent garden, said these plants are favored for their low maintenance, diverse shapes, and symbolism of resilience and good fortune in the new year.

Da Lat Flowers Go Digital
Notably, alongside traditional sales channels, e-commerce platforms are increasingly proving their effectiveness, opening new pathways for Da Lat flowers during the Tet season.

Tran Thi Le Quyen, an online flower seller, said digital platforms allow products to reach buyers in many localities, moving beyond familiar flower markets and helping Da Lat flowers gain wider recognition. “As Tet approaches, the flower market becomes more vibrant, creating a cheerful atmosphere for growers,” Quyen said.

Beyond selling, she also supports farmers with product promotion, design consultation, order processing, packaging, and delivery—shortening the journey from garden to consumer.
The combination of traditional production, evolving consumer tastes, and modern sales channels is giving fresh momentum to Da Lat’s flower industry, helping growers adapt to a market increasingly shaped by digital transformation.

Streets Washed in Spring Colors
Amid the flow of spring flowers, Da Lat’s urban landscape is even more radiant this year as cherry blossoms burst into bloom along numerous streets.

Soft pink hues stretch beneath the spring sun, blending with the cool air to create a signature highland scene each Tet season. Under the flowering canopies, locals and visitors pause to admire the blossoms, take photos, and savor Da Lat’s distinctive springtime charm.
Visitor Vo Thi Kim Lien said strolling through streets lined with cherry apricot blossoms in the days before Tet is an unforgettable experience. "Spring is clearly present on every street. Enjoying the blossoms while picking up a few Da Lat flowers to decorate my home makes the trip feel complete,” she said.

Sharing the same sentiment, visitor Le Thi Thao noted that flowers not only beautify the urban area but also bring a sense of warmth and closeness during the early days of the new year.

“Just walking along a few flower-filled streets makes it easy to feel that spring is spreading everywhere,” she said.

Beyond marking the arrival of spring, cherry blossoms are opening new directions for sustainable tourism tied to Da Lat’s highland identity.

The floral season attracts visitors to both urban and suburban areas, blending sightseeing with relaxation. This influx of tourists invigorates the local economy, particularly in the accommodation and hospitality sectors, while providing sustainable livelihoods for residents.

Cherry blossoms are thus emerging as a distinctive tourism product, helping diversify Da Lat’s economic structure alongside its traditional strength in flower production.
As Da Lat’s flowers travel by truck into the urban area, spring colors spread across the highland landscape. From suburban gardens to streets and doorsteps, flowers do more than beautify—they connect people and carry hopes for a warm, peaceful, and abundant spring.

Amid modern life’s fast pace, these blossoms quietly tell the story of a gentle, radiant, and deeply distinctive Da Lat each time spring returns.
