Discovering Lam Dong Through Immersive Handcraft Workshops
Amid the rush of daily life, intimate handcraft workshops — where visitors can try their hand at pottery, flower pressing, candle blending and more — are emerging as a refreshing new way for travelers to reconnect with a slower, poetic rhythm of life in the flower-filled highlands of Lam Dong.

Slowing down beneath the pine trees of Da Lat
In the crisp morning air of Da Lat, a small studio tucked beneath whispering pine trees begins to warm up with gentle laughter. The earthy scent of wet clay, a hint of ceramic glaze, and thin sunlight streaming through the window create a space that feels both grounded and quietly magical.
At a pottery workshop in Lam Vien-Da Lat Ward, artisan Tran Thi Kim Dung calmly introduces each step of the process. On a wooden table lie perfectly cut blocks of soft clay. Each participant sits before their own wheel — hands ready, eyes sparkling with anticipation to create a piece of pottery from nothing but earth and intention.

As the wheel begins to spin, hands gently shape the clay — and before long, cups, bowls, vases, and little keepsakes start to emerge, formed by focus, laughter, and a touch of nervous excitement.
More than crafting — it’s a way of being present
Three hours pass in peaceful concentration. The workshop ends with imperfect but deeply personal creations, the warm scent of tea, and the quiet joy of having physically touched stillness.

“Creating something with my own hands — and sharing this moment with my mom — is such a precious memory,” said Nguyen Ngoc Quynh Tram, a visitor from Dong Nai Province.

Dung, who moved from Ho Chi Minh City to pursue her passion, says her workshop is not merely a craft class. It is a sanctuary — a place to slow down, create, and reconnect, especially for young people who yearn to step away from screens and return to something tactile and real.
A blooming ecosystem of craft experiences across Lam Dong
Beyond pottery, Lam Dong is blossoming into Vietnam’s highland capital of handcraft experiences, offering workshops in:
- Scented candle and soap making
- Flower pressing and botanical art
- Handmade chocolate, bamboo weaving, and painting
- Baking in pinewood cabins overlooking the hills

These workshops attract not only international travelers, but also local families and groups of young creatives seeking experiences that are interactive, mindful, and unmistakably personal.
Together with cloud hunting, café strolling, and flower garden walks, craft-based experiential travel is becoming one of Lam Dong’s most compelling ways to connect people — not just with nature, but with themselves.
