Just 50 km from Nha Trang, Hon Ba rises 1,578 meters above sea level and is often called the “Da Lat of Khanh Hoa” for its cool climate, lush forests, and historical connection with Dr. Alexandre Yersin. It has become a refreshing escape for travelers seeking nature, culture, and a break from the coastal heat.

A scenic mountain journey

From the Suoi Dau junction, visitors can join a tour bus with an open roof heading to the summit. The 37-kilometer route is winding and steep but well-paved, equipped with safety signs and emergency lanes. Along the way, travelers enjoy dense forests, cascading streams, and misty mountain views that highlight the area’s grandeur.

Previously, access to Hon Ba was restricted due to strict conservation rules, requiring official permits. Today, with ticket prices ranging from 300,000 to 900,000 VND, tourists can easily explore and enjoy a variety of services.

Yersin’s legacy at the summit

The highlight of Hon Ba is the two-story house of Dr. Alexandre Yersin, built in 1914. Here, Yersin lived, conducted research, and cultivated rare medicinal plants. The site was recognized as a National Historic Relic in 2023, making it a cultural and scientific landmark.

For those seeking deeper insights, the themed tour “In the Footsteps of Dr. A. Yersin” (965,000 VND/person) connects Hon Ba with the Yersin Museum, A.Yersin Park, his grave site, and the Institute of Oceanography.

Activities for every traveler

Beyond cultural exploration, visitors can enjoy outdoor activities at the foot of the mountain, including swimming in streams, off-road driving, and ziplining, before sampling a buffet of local specialties such as roasted chicken and pork. The best time to visit is from June to August, when rainfall is low, the mist is lighter, and the summit climate is less chilly.

Hon Ba is not only ideal for family day trips but also attracts sports enthusiasts. During the VnExpress Marathon Libera Nha Trang 2025 on August 24, which gathered 13,000 runners along scenic coastal routes, many participants combined their race with a journey to Hon Ba.
