Flyboarding Takes Flight Over Lam Dong’s Blue Coast
Lam Dong Province is exploring the possibility of hosting the World Flyboard Championship, an extreme water sport that combines advanced technology, athletic skill and artistic performance. The initiative is viewed as a new step in the province’s strategy to diversify marine sports tourism products, with expectations of boosting destination branding and attracting high-end visitors.

A World-Class Sporting Event
Recently, a business proposed a plan to position Lam Dong as the first locality in Vietnam to host the World Flyboard Championship. The sport has already gained popularity in destinations such as Qatar, Dubai and the United States, but has never been officially staged in Vietnam.
According to the company’s representatives, Flyboard uses powerful water jets to propel athletes above the water surface, allowing them to perform spectacular aerial maneuvers. If realized, the championship would bring together some of the world’s leading Flyboarding athletes, complemented by light shows, music performances and interactive water-sports experiences.
Beyond creating a fresh highlight for cultural, sporting and tourism activities, the event is expected to promote the province’s image to domestic and international audiences.

The province also envisions Flyboarding as a catalyst for developing a broader water-sports tourism ecosystem, leveraging natural landscapes while expanding the premium tourism segment. The proposal further aims to attract international media attention and strengthen Lam Dong’s position on the global experiential tourism map.

The development of a new sport should be studied through the formation of a comprehensive ecosystem that effectively utilizes the locality’s geographical advantages, natural landscapes and conditions suitable for water sports. This approach will help diversify tourism products, contribute to socio-economic development and support the province’s goal of achieving double-digit economic growth.

Known not only as Vietnam’s “resort capital,” Mui Ne has long been a favorite destination for water sports enthusiasts. Visitors are familiar with activities such as windsurfing, kitesurfing, stand-up paddleboarding, paragliding and parasailing.
More recently, flyboarding has emerged as an exciting attraction for adventure seekers. At Bai Rang Beach in Mui Ne Ward, residents and visitors gathering on calm weekend afternoons can often witness breathtaking flyboarding performances featuring aerial spins, flips and acrobatic maneuvers performed by international athletes.

Artistry Above the Waves
World flyboarding champion Tomasz Kubik, who is currently active in Mui Ne and has performed several times along Lam Dong’s coastline, believes the destination possesses significant potential for the sport.

Having performed in many places around the world as well as in various coastal regions of Vietnam, I consider Mui Ne a beautiful tourism destination with favorable weather conditions that attract visitors year-round, especially those who love water sports. I am delighted to be invited here for flyboarding shows. This is much more than a sport—it requires exceptional technical skill and professionalism, involving movements such as spins, dance-like choreography and aerial acrobatics.
Tomasz Kubik, World Flyboarding Champion
According to Kubik, when combined with dynamic music, lighting effects, fireworks and costumes, flyboarding becomes a captivating form of entertainment that offers visitors unforgettable seaside experiences.
Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy, Executive Director of Flyboard Mui Ne—the first and currently only flyboarding operator in Lam Dong—shared a similar perspective.
“From a recreational sport, flyboarding is gradually being recognized as a form of artistic performance on the sea. With proper management and development, it can not only refresh marine sports tourism but also create opportunities to participate in cultural festivals and tourism events. This is a suitable direction for Lam Dong’s blue coast to become more than just a leisure destination and to establish itself as one of Southeast Asia’s leading marine sports hubs.”

At a recent meeting with the proposing business, provincial leaders expressed strong support for the idea of hosting the World Flyboard Championship, describing it as a creative, modern and groundbreaking sporting initiative.
Flyboard was invented in 2011 by French jet-ski champion Franky Zapata. The first Flyboard competition was held in 2013, marking the beginning of what has become one of the world’s most spectacular water sports.
