Following the administrative merger, Tien Thanh has become one of Lam Dong Province’s largest coastal localities. In this context, ensuring environmental hygiene in residential areas and along the coastline has been identified as a key factor in shaping a new rural image and promoting sustainable tourism development.

Building green streets

Compared to the past, many roads in Tien Thanh Ward that were once littered with waste, along with neglected vacant lots, have now become cleaner and more orderly. This positive change stems from a people-centered approach, starting with awareness at the household level and sustained through regular, practical actions.

Tien Thanh Ward has renewed its communication methods. Instead of relying solely on loudspeakers or official documents, environmental protection has been integrated into residents’ daily routines. Each neighborhood, household and even individual is regularly reminded of shared responsibilities such as not littering, preventing wastewater from flowing onto roads, and disposing of garbage at the right time and in designated places. These small but persistent actions have led to a clear shift in community awareness.

In the Duc Long area, where many fishermen previously paid limited attention to environmental hygiene, the landscape has changed noticeably. Nguyen Thi Hong, a resident of Tien Thanh Ward, shared: “At neighborhood meetings, people are constantly reminded to keep the environment clean, so the area is now much tidier and more presentable.”

Along the coast, household waste and marine debris are collected regularly, overgrown vegetation is cleared, and drainage systems are unblocked. Beyond a cleaner environment, order along sidewalks and roadways has gradually improved, contributing to traffic safety, better landscapes and an enhanced local tourism image.

According to Tran Thi Trung Trinh, Vice Chairwoman of the Tien Thanh Ward People’s Committee, creating a green, clean and friendly environment is viewed as a core strategy to strengthen competitiveness and attract visitors. “Green tourism development is not only a trend but an inevitable requirement for sustainable development,” she emphasized.

To achieve this goal, the locality has reviewed and proposed adjustments to planning schemes, prioritizing public green spaces such as parks, tree-lined streets and environmentally friendly community areas. Tree planting and the preservation of existing natural landscapes are being promoted to create aesthetic highlights while maintaining Tien Thanh’s distinctive identity in the eyes of visitors.

At the same time, management of solid waste, wastewater and environmental sanitation in residential areas, tourist sites and accommodation facilities has been strengthened. Models for waste separation at source, reducing single-use plastics and encouraging environmentally friendly materials are being implemented in a coordinated manner, with clear roadmaps and close supervision.

The Vice Chairwoman added that the locality has intensified communication efforts and coordinated with departments and agencies to organize training for tourism businesses and service providers on green tourism standards, energy efficiency and resource protection. In parallel, the locality encourages the development of homestays, eco-tourism sites and experiential tourism linked to agriculture and local culture.

Saying no to plastic waste

Tien Thanh Ward has identified the regular and synchronized organization of environmental cleanup and landscape improvement campaigns, following the green–clean–beautiful approach, as a key task. In particular, the locality is strengthening the participation and responsibility of tourism service providers to foster their shared awareness of environmental protection and enhance the image of a friendly and civilized destination.

According to Ms Tran Thi Trung Trinh, the ward is studying and proposing incentive mechanisms to the provincial level to prioritize investment in green tourism and environmentally friendly projects that harmonize with the coastal landscape of Tien Thanh. At the same time, management of activities that pose potential environmental risks is being tightened to ensure development goes hand in hand with conservation.

The Tien Thanh Ward People’s Committee noted that plastic waste remains a major concern, especially in coastal areas where residential life overlaps with tourism activities. Beyond harming visual appeal, plastic waste poses long-term risks to the marine environment.

In response, alongside waste collection efforts, the locality has stepped up advocacy to encourage residents and businesses to limit the use of plastic bags and single-use plastics, gradually shifting toward environmentally friendly alternatives such as paper bags, paper cups and bamboo straws.

Environmental protection in Tien Thanh is no longer a short-term campaign. From small alleys in residential areas to coastal roads, habits such as proper waste disposal and maintaining shared spaces are being practiced daily. Cleaner roads and beaches are changes that residents themselves can clearly feel.

Protecting the environment is not merely about meeting criteria; it is about ensuring that every neighborhood and street truly becomes a friendly living space — a goal that Tien Thanh Ward is pursuing with persistence and long-term commitment.
