The temporary closure of Lien Khuong International Airport for repairs was carefully planned in coordination with central ministries and agencies.

The runway and taxiway repair project, invested by ACV, is being implemented in Duc Trong Commune, Lam Dong Province. It is a Grade I aviation transport project with a total investment of VND 1.032 trillion. The scope includes comprehensive repairs to the runway, taxiways, runway safety areas, and technical infrastructure and equipment to ensure flight operations.

The contractor mobilizes machinery and resources to commence the project.

The project’s core component is the full rehabilitation of Runway 09–27, measuring 3,250 meters by 45 meters. A key technical breakthrough is the replacement of the existing asphalt concrete pavement with durable cement concrete, addressing structural deterioration and optimizing load-bearing capacity for modern aircraft.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman Ho Van Muoi affirmed that the temporary suspension of operations at Lien Khuong Airport during construction will inevitably affect transportation systems within the province, the region, and even international routes. However, the airport upgrade is an urgent requirement to open up new, sustainable, and efficient development opportunities.

Mr. Ho Van Muoi, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, requests the contractor to mobilize manpower and resources under a “three shifts, four crews” model to ensure the project’s progress and quality.

The Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee stated that the decision to temporarily close the airport was strategically calculated by local authorities in coordination with central ministries and agencies. All proposed plans aim to minimize impacts on economic development and people’s livelihoods.

He further noted that the groundbreaking schedule was optimized because all design and consultancy documents have been finalized in strict accordance with legal regulations. Consequently, all necessary conditions are now in place to simultaneously implement the project’s various components.

Immediately after the groundbreaking ceremony, all units must promptly mobilize, fully prepare materials and manpower, and organize construction in a methodical and efficient manner. All work must be carried out in the spirit of acting immediately, doing it fully, doing it properly, doing it swiftly, and staying on schedule.

The upgrade and repair of Lien Khuong International Airport is an urgent necessity.

Provincial authorities have proactively upgraded and renovated the road network to facilitate travel for residents and visitors during the airport’s temporary closure. National Highway 28B, connecting Ho Chi Minh City, Phan Thiet, and Da Lat, is largely completed. National Highway 20 and key routes linking to central Da Lat have also been cleared and improved to ensure smooth traffic flow.

Representatives from various departments, agencies, and aviation units attend the groundbreaking ceremony.

“Lam Dong requests the investor and contractors to organize construction under a ‘three shifts, four crews’ model, striving to shorten the construction timeline while ensuring project quality. Departments, agencies, and local authorities will work alongside them, promptly resolving any emerging difficulties and providing maximum support to the construction units. All parties must work together so that Lien Khuong International Airport can soon complete its upgrade and resume operations, meeting development demands in the new phase,” requested Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial People’s Committee Ho Van Muoi.
