Hon Rom - Beautiful in its own way
Although not yet as well-known as other coastal destinations in Lam Dong, Hon Rom grassland (in Mui Ne) can still captivate visitors, especially on breezy early summer days, with its raw and expansive beauty.
Where the sea harmonizes with the grassland
Free from the noise of services and crowds, this place offers a rare moment of stillness amid the increasingly vibrant pace of tourism. From the center of Phan Thiet, the journey to Hon Rom is quite convenient. You can ride a motorbike along the nearly 30 km coastal road to fully enjoy the scenery, or take Bus No. 9 (Phan Thiet - Mui Ne route). Simply ask the driver to stop near the grassland area, and your journey begins.

Yet this simplicity is also part of Hon Rom’s charm. Since the area is not officially recognized by local residents as a tourist destination — and many drivers may not be familiar with it either — visitors are advised to get off a few kilometers before Mui Ne. This modest, unassuming approach adds to the distinctive character of the place.
What makes Hon Rom special is the contrast between two distinct landscapes. On one side lies a gentle blue sea, with soft waves lapping against a long stretch of fine white sand. From the shore, small islands appear faintly in the clear water, adding life to the seascape. In the morning, sunlight gilds the ocean; by afternoon, the scenery shifts into warmer tones, creating a peaceful and poetic atmosphere.

In contrast, the grassland reveals a dry yet captivating beauty. Rolling hills are covered in fresh green grass during the rainy season, then turn golden under the summer sun, resembling giant haystacks, a folk explanation for the name “Hon Rom.” Scattered among them are low shrubs, thorny cacti, and pebble-strewn ground. This rustic scenery not only shapes the landscape’s character but also provides the perfect backdrop for naturally styled photography.

One Journey, many experiences
One of the most enjoyable highlights is the cool casuarina grove along the coast. After spending time in the water, under the sun, and amid the constant ocean breeze, you can retreat to this green shade for a rest.
Under the trees, all you need is a small mat and a few simple snacks to enjoy a relaxing picnic with friends. Or simply lie still, listening to the wind and waves, letting time slow down—enough to bring a deep sense of relaxation.

From Hon Rom, your journey can continue to Bau Trang, a vast white sand dune often called the “mini desert” of the coastal region. Along the way, lizard farms offer a unique culinary stop, where you can try local specialties typical of sandy areas.
Further offshore, Hon Rua (also known as Hon Nghe) resembles a turtle rising from the sea, adding a vivid highlight to the Mui Ne seascape.

Not only beautiful during the day, Hon Rom takes on a special charm at night. The space becomes quiet, the sky opens wide with sparkling stars, and the distant sound of waves forms a gentle melody. It’s the perfect time for camping—gathering around a small fire, listening to acoustic music, or simply lying on the grass, gazing at the moon and feeling the breath of the sea.
What makes Hon Rom memorable is not modern services or full amenities, but its preserved natural simplicity. It is like a quiet pause in the broader tourism picture of “Lam Dong – Blue Sea,” where visitors can step away from the rush of life, reconnect with nature, and appreciate simple moments.

“Hon Rom isn’t the kind of place with full tourist services, but its simplicity is exactly what keeps visitors coming back. My friends and I camped overnight, listened to the waves, and had a campfire—it was truly a memorable experience.”
Tran Van Hung, a visitor from Ho Chi Minh City
A trip to Hon Rom is therefore more than just sightseeing, it’s a journey toward balance. Amid white sand, blue sea, wind, and sunlight, every moment feels gentle yet meaningful. And perhaps it is this very simplicity that makes people want to return, once again.
