Keeping compassion alive
Over the past five years, humanitarian work in Lam Dong has evolved from providing short-term emergency relief to promoting sustainable livelihood solutions, offering long-term support for low-income and vulnerable households.
From gift-giving to livelihood support
Over the past five years, the “Tet of Compassion” campaign in Bac Gia Nghia Ward has mobilized and distributed more than 17,000 gifts worth over VND 6 billion. The initiative has helped poor and near-poor households, as well as orphaned children, enjoy a warmer Lunar New Year while spreading the spirit of solidarity and the message that no one should be left behind.
To provide more sustainable pathways out of poverty, Red Cross chapters at all levels have gradually shifted from one-off assistance to livelihood support.
In Hiep Thanh Commune, the “Piggy Bank” campaign has provided 24 poor households with VND 240 million in interest-free loans to purchase breeding cattle. The “Blue Sky” project in 2024 also supplied 100 black piglets to 25 disadvantaged households. After one year, the herds were valued at more than VND 155 million.
In April 2026, the Red Cross Society continued working with relevant agencies to provide another 132 piglets worth VND 162 million to 33 poor and ethnic minority households.
Following the 2025 natural disasters, an international project provided livelihood assistance worth VND 7 million per household to 12 flooded-affected families on June 9, 2026, helping them restore production.
The Red Cross Society also acted as a guarantor for unsecured loans through the Lien Hiep People's Credit Fund, with outstanding loans totaling around VND 4.5 billion, enabling hundreds of low-income households to access production capital.
Spreading the spirit of compassion
Ensuring the long-term sustainability of humanitarian efforts requires grassroots Red Cross Society chapters to continuously innovate. In Mui Ne Ward, the local chapter has strengthened its organizational structure, with 284 core members leading community activities.
Over the past five years, it has mobilized nearly VND 2 billion in social contributions to support more than 500 vulnerable people. Notably, Mui Ne has become a pioneer in applying digital technology to manage membership and beneficiary data, improving transparency and accountability while strengthening donor confidence.
According to Nguyen Thi Xuan Tram, Chairwoman of the Duc Trong Commune Red Cross Society, the organization is prioritizing information technology to enhance operational efficiency and rapidly connect donors with humanitarian beneficiaries while accelerating the transition from emergency assistance to sustainable livelihood support.
Over the past five years, humanitarian activities across the province have been valued at more than VND 990 billion, supporting over 4.1 million people - equivalent to 14.4 times the state budget allocated to Red Cross operations. The figures underscore the Red Cross network's role, from the provincial to grassroots levels, as a leading humanitarian force and a trusted bridge connecting donors with those in need.
