Lam Dong approves Duc Trong master plan by 2050
Duc Trong is planned to become Lam Dong Province’s new administrative and political center under a newly approved master planning mission.
Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Hong Hai signed Decision No. 2216 on May 19 approving the master plan for Duc Trong Commune through 2050, which includes several strategic regional development orientations.
According to the decision, the planning area covers the entire Duc Trong Commune, spanning nearly 14,878 hectares, or 148.8 square kilometers. The planning area borders Ta Nang Commune to the east, Ninh Gia Commune to the west, Ta Hine Commune to the south, and Tan Hoi, Hiep Thanh, and Don Duong communes to the north.

The planning timeline is divided into two phases, including a short-term period through 2030 and a long-term vision to 2050.
Under the plan, Duc Trong is expected to develop into a smart, green and sustainable urban area, with its economic structure shifting toward processing industries, logistics services, administrative urban development and international trade. The locality is also envisioned as the future administrative and political center of Lam Dong Province.
By 2030, local authorities aim to complete the criteria for a modern rural area while striving to meet the standards of a Class III urban area. The locality will also focus on upgrading technical infrastructure, expanding industrial zones, and developing centralized wastewater collection and treatment systems.
The plan also prioritizes investment in urban transport infrastructure and drainage systems to address urban flooding, while upgrading education and vocational training networks linked to workforce demand from industrial parks, logistics services and Lien Khuong International Airport.
In addition, the locality plans to develop social housing projects, residential areas for workers and experts, and resettlement zones serving expressway projects and social welfare needs.
By 2050, Duc Trong is envisioned as a regional urban hub with integrated transport connections to expressways and Lien Khuong International Airport. The plan also includes the development of Lam Dong Province’s administrative and political center combined with a modern administrative urban area, creating new growth momentum for Duc Trong and neighboring localities such as Hiep Thanh and Ninh Gia.

In addition, the plan also includes the development of research and development (R&D) centers focused on biotechnology, deep agricultural processing, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.
Under the approved decision, Duc Trong is planned to become an international trade gateway connected to Lien Khuong International Airport, major transport corridors and industrial zones. The locality is also expected to become a core urban area of the Central Highlands gateway, as well as a regional industrial, logistics and smart green urban development.
Lam Dong authorities have assigned Duc Trong Commune to carry out the planning process, which is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2026 using local budget funding.
The development of Duc Trong as a smart urban area and administrative and logistics center is expected to open up new growth opportunities for Lam Dong Province in the coming decades.
