Lam Dong’s economic growth is being shaped by a clear three-pillar strategy: high-tech agriculture, high-quality tourism, and processing industry–energy, creating a solid foundation for long-term development.

High-tech agriculture – a strong backbone
Despite global uncertainties, Lam Dong’s economy remains stable, with agriculture continuing to play a foundational role. The sector is rapidly modernizing through science and technology, focusing on quality and added value rather than volume.

In Q1 2026, agriculture, forestry, and fisheries grew by 5.39%, contributing significantly to overall growth. The province now has over 107,000 hectares of high-tech farming, including smart agriculture models. Key products such as vegetables, flowers, coffee, and tea are increasingly competitive in both domestic and international markets.

However, challenges remain, including rising input costs and market fluctuations, requiring further innovation and stronger value chain linkages.

Lam Dong currently has more than 107,000 hectares of high-tech agriculture, accounting for around 10% of its total farmland, including 1,200 hectares under smart farming models. Key sectors such as vegetables, flowers, coffee, tea, and dairy farming are increasingly applying modern production systems and standards, including VietGAP and GlobalGAP.

Vegetables and flowers, in particular, are strengthening their position in domestic and global markets, adding higher value through supply chains. Large-scale farming zones linked with businesses and cooperatives are also improving production and distribution efficiency.

However, high-tech agriculture also faces challenges, including rising input costs, fluctuating commodity prices, and pressure to adjust crop structures to market demand.

This calls for continued technological innovation, restructuring production along value chains, and stronger linkages among farmers, businesses, and the market.

Tourism drives service growth

Alongside agriculture, tourism continues to affirm its role as a key economic driver, contributing significantly to growth in the service sector.

With its mild climate, diverse natural landscapes, and rich cultural identity, Lam Dong is steadily shifting toward high-quality, sustainable tourism development.

Processing and energy industries enhance value

In the three-pillar development strategy, industry, particularly processing and energy, is identified as a key driver for increasing value-added and supporting long-term growth.

Nguyen Ba Ut, Director of the Lam Dong Department of Industry and Trade, said that in Q1 2026, the province’s industry and construction sector grew by 7.91%, contributing 1.94 percentage points to overall growth. The industrial production index rose by 8.2%, with processing and manufacturing surging nearly 20%—highlighting a clear shift from raw production to deep processing.

Processed agricultural products such as vegetables, fruits, coffee, tea, and beverages also recorded strong growth. This not only increases product value but also reduces reliance on raw exports while expanding market reach.

Meanwhile, energy production remains stable, with over 8 billion kWh generated, alongside growing investment in renewable energy like wind and solar.

The province is also attracting investment to industrial zones, with nearly 3,000 active projects worth over VND 828 trillion in Q1 2026, providing a key driver for future growth and economic restructuring.

Integrating the three pillars

A key highlight of Lam Dong’s development strategy is not only identifying the right pillars, but also effectively connecting them to maximize cross-sector synergy

High-tech agriculture supplies quality inputs for processing industries; processing adds value and extends product chains; while tourism promotes, markets, and enhances the brand value of local agricultural products. Meanwhile, energy and industrial infrastructure provide the foundation supporting the entire development chain.

This close linkage has enabled Lam Dong to build a relatively sustainable economic model, capable of adapting to market fluctuations and climate change.

According to Le Trong Yen, Standing Vice Chairman of the Lam Dong People’s Committee, to maximize the effectiveness of the three-pillar strategy, the province must address bottlenecks in transport infrastructure, logistics, and the supply of high-quality human resources, while accelerating digital transformation in governance and production. The province must also attract investment selectively, giving priority to high-tech and environmentally friendly projects.
