Lam Dong Discusses Measures to Boost Tourism Development

On March 13, at the headquarters of the Provincial People’s Committee, Dinh Van Tuan, Member of the Provincial Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Lam Dong Province, chaired a meeting to review tourism development across the province.

The meeting was attended by leaders of provincial departments and agencies, tourism associations, travel companies, and representatives of local authorities across the province.

At the meeting, participants focused on assessing tourism development amid several new challenges, particularly the temporary closure of Lien Khuong International Airport and ongoing geopolitical tensions in several parts of the world.

These factors were identified as potentially affecting visitor arrivals, tour organization, tourism transport infrastructure, and destination promotion activities.

According to the Lam Dong Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, during the first 10 days after the airport’s temporary closure, tourism activity in the province has not shown major changes, as the period does not coincide with the peak travel season.

Currently, amid global uncertainties, the provincial tourism sector has proactively developed response scenarios to ensure tourism activities remain stable and safe. In some cases, international visitors have had to extend their stays due to limited flight connections. This challenge is also viewed as an opportunity for the province to reinforce its image as a friendly, safe, and welcoming destination.

Since the beginning of the year, Lam Dong has received about 3.6 million visitors. To sustain this momentum, the tourism sector has rolled out several short-term measures, including organizing cultural and tourism events in central areas, expanding festivals tied to destination promotion, and developing tourism clusters to diversify visitor experiences.

The sector is also coordinating with the Lam Dong Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Center to roll out investment promotion and tourism marketing programs. These efforts are aimed at expanding into international markets that can be served by short-haul flights, such as Singapore and Cambodia, while continuing to strengthen the domestic tourism market.

At the same time, provincial departments and local authorities are reviewing tourism infrastructure, with a focus on building green, clean and attractive destinations, enhancing urban landscaping, developing flower-lined streets, and launching grassroots environmental sanitation campaigns to create a positive impression on visitors.

Local tourism hubs, including Da Lat, are implementing measures to ensure urban order, transparent price listing, traffic flow management, parking planning, and improved tourism service quality.

At the meeting, many travel companies and investors called for clearer mechanisms and policies to support tourism businesses. They also recommended stronger tourism stimulus programs and incentives for large tour groups, especially in the MICE segment, which typically generates high spending.

Representatives of Lam Dong Provincial Police said specific plans have been developed to maintain security and order for tourism activities. The force is also coordinating with police units in other provinces to proactively ensure tourist safety. In his concluding remarks, Vice Chairman Dinh Van Tuan called on government agencies, localities, and businesses to strengthen coordination in developing new tourism products and diversifying tour routes, with particular attention to agritourism and unique local tourism products.

He emphasized the need to focus more on domestic visitors and regional markets in Southeast Asia that are less affected by global political fluctuations.

He also urged stronger organization of cultural and sports events to promote the province’s image, alongside continued urban beautification, environmental sanitation, flower street development, and the creation of new destinations that highlight Lam Dong’s unique identity.

The province will also explore the development of locally distinctive souvenirs and tourism maps highlighting regional characteristics and Lam Dong’s well-known flower industry, helping create a stronger identity for the destination.

Emphasizing the role of the community in sustainable tourism development, Vice Chairman Tuan noted that every resident should become a “tourism ambassador,” contributing to building the image of Lam Dong as a friendly, safe, and attractive destination while enhancing the competitiveness of the province’s tourism sector in the coming years.
