Lam Dong Finalizes Management Regulations for the Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark
On the afternoon of April 13, Provincial Party Committee member and Vice Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial People’s Committee Dinh Van Tuan chaired a meeting to review and provide feedback on the draft decision promulgating the regulation on the management, protection, and development of the Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark.

The need for a Unified and Comprehensive Management Framework
The Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark spans a vast area and involves multiple sectors, including geology, environment, culture, and tourism, requiring coordination among agencies at various levels.
Following administrative restructuring, significant changes to the management model have made it necessary to comprehensively review coordination and responsibility-sharing among relevant local agencies in protecting and promoting the geopark’s values.

In recent years, the province has issued numerous directives related to heritage management and the promotion of the geopark’s values. However, the lack of a unified and comprehensive regulatory framework has undermined management efficiency and the effective use of resources.
Draft Regulation Defines Roles and Key Areas of Management
Accordingly, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has spearheaded the drafting of regulations to manage, protect and develop the Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark.
The draft regulation sets out specific provisions covering key areas such as the conservation of geological and cultural heritage, biodiversity protection, environmental protection, tourism development and management, scientific research, and international cooperation.
At the same time, it establishes clear principles for unified management and assigns specific responsibilities to departments, sectors, and local authorities in coordinating the protection, management, and promotion of the geopark’s values.
During the drafting process, the regulation received broad consultation from departments, sectors, localities, and relevant units, with a total of 39 feedback submissions, most of which expressed agreement with the draft content.

He emphasized the need to carefully review the scope of regulation, comprehensively assess the impacts of the policy, and strengthen coordination with localities in delineating boundaries and zoning areas within the geopark.
Vice Chairman Dinh Van Tuan also stressed that the regulation must ensure a balance between conservation and the sustainable utilization and promotion of heritage values. At the same time, he called for studying and applying effective models from both domestic and international practices to suit local conditions, thereby contributing to socio-economic development in the province.
