Lam Dong Mobilizes Entire Political System for Free Health Screening Campaign

Lam Dong authorities are mobilizing the entire political system to accelerate free health check-ups and disease screening, aiming to ensure every resident receives at least one health examination in 2026.

On the afternoon of August 3, Pham Thi Phuc, Deputy Secretary of the Lam Dong Provincial Party Committee and Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Lam Dong Province, together with Dinh Van Tuan, Member of the Provincial Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, chaired a conference on implementing the province-wide free health check-up program.

The conference was held in person at the Provincial People's Committee Hall and connected online with all 124 communes, wards and special administrative zones across the province.

According to the Lam Dong Department of Health, by the end of July 2026, nearly 750,000 residents had received free health check-ups and screenings, representing more than 19% of the provincial target.

Among them, 188,429 children under six were examined, reaching 62.3% of the target; 476,918 children aged 6–18 completed health screenings, equivalent to 69.5% of the plan; while only 82,187 adults aged over 18 had been examined, accounting for approximately 3% of the target.

Since the beginning of 2026, health examination and health insurance treatment data have been recorded for approximately 2.3 million people, or more than 60% of Lam Dong's population.

According to the Department of Health, the program's implementation has faced several challenges, including shortages of medical personnel and equipment, uneven information technology infrastructure, the province's large geographical area, and difficult transportation conditions.

Many localities also remain uncertain about identifying eligible beneficiaries, preparing implementation plans, allocating funding and selecting healthcare providers.

During the conference, representatives from provincial departments and local authorities discussed the reasons behind the relatively low participation rate, reviewed implementation obstacles and proposed solutions to accelerate the program.

Free Health Screenings Gain Momentum Across Lam Dong

Addressing the conference, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairwoman of the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Pham Thi Phuc stressed that free health check-ups and disease screening represent both a humanitarian policy and a long-term strategy to safeguard public health.

The Standing Board of the Provincial Party Committee commended the Provincial People's Committee for its proactive leadership while recognizing the efforts of departments, agencies and local authorities in implementing the program.

However, she noted that existing difficulties pose significant challenges to achieving the province's goal of providing at least one free health examination for every resident by the end of 2026.

She urged the Provincial People's Committee to continue directing and supervising departments and local authorities to implement the program urgently and effectively while promptly resolving issues within their authority.

Health authorities and local administrations were also instructed to strengthen public communication so residents clearly understand the program's objectives, procedures and implementation plan. Individuals suspected of having illnesses during initial screenings should be guided to appropriate healthcare facilities for diagnosis and treatment through health insurance.

She further called for the timely recognition and commendation of organizations and individuals demonstrating outstanding performance, thereby encouraging wider participation in improving public healthcare.

Local authorities must mobilize the entire political system to participate in free health examinations and disease screening for residents. Every agency should proactively fulfill its responsibilities, while issues beyond local authority must be promptly reported to the Standing Board of the Provincial Party Committee for direction.

Concluding the conference, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Dinh Van Tuan urged provincial departments to take a more proactive role in advising and guiding local authorities in implementing the health screening program.

He instructed authorities in communes, wards and a special administrative zone to immediately review eligible beneficiaries and develop health examination plans starting on August 1, 2026.

Lam Dong aims to ensure that 100% of its population receives at least one free health examination by November 30, 2026.

To achieve this target, all relevant agencies must act with determination and adhere to the principle of 'six clear responsibilities.' In the coming period, departments and localities should strengthen public awareness campaigns on universal health check-ups and strictly maintain periodic reporting so the Provincial People's Committee can closely monitor implementation and provide timely direction.
