Lam Dong Opens Export Markets Through SPS Standards
On October 13, the Lam Dong Provincial People’s Committee issued a plan to improve implementation of the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) Agreement on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPS Agreement) and free trade agreements across the province.

The plan aims to standardize production processes, strengthen food safety controls at source, and prevent and control animal and plant diseases. These efforts are intended to improve the quality and competitiveness of the province’s agricultural, forestry and fishery products, protect consumer health, and meet the stringent standards of both domestic and export markets.

To achieve these objectives, the province will focus on several key groups of solutions.
First, it will raise awareness and expand training on SPS requirements, while promoting good agricultural practices under VietGAP, GlobalGAP and organic standards, as well as advanced quality management systems such as HACCP and ISO 22000.

The province will strengthen inspections and traceability, enhance monitoring of food safety hazards, tighten controls over agricultural inputs, and expand the issuance of cultivation-area and packing-facility codes in conjunction with digital transformation.
It will also promote the application of science and technology, digitize the agricultural sector’s databases, and apply information technology and virtual assistants to help residents and businesses access market information.
The Lam Dong Provincial People’s Committee has assigned the Department of Agriculture and Environment to serve as the standing agency, taking the lead in coordinating with relevant departments, sectors and local authorities to implement the designated tasks in a coordinated and effective manner.
These efforts are expected to contribute to the sustainable development of local agriculture.
