Lam Dong prepares thoroughly for major cultural and sporting events

Lam Dong is stepping up preparations for two major provincial events in 2026 — the first Lam Dong Provincial Sports Festival and the 11th Da Lat Flower Festival — with a focus on ensuring professional, safe and efficient organization.

On the afternoon of August 12, Dinh Van Tuan, Member of the Provincial Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial People’s Committee, chaired a meeting to review preparations for the first Lam Dong Provincial Sports Festival 2026 and the 11th Da Lat Flower Festival 2026.

According to a report by the Lam Dong Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the first Lam Dong Provincial Sports Festival 2026 is scheduled to officially open on September 12 at Lam Vien Square, featuring 28 parade groups, including 20 local clusters and eight mass organizations.

Competition events have been conducted according to the approved schedule. As of now, 12 of the 23 sports have been completed, while preparations are underway for the remaining events. The final-round schedule has been adjusted to ensure that all competitions are completed by September 14, 2026.

Ahead of the opening ceremony, the organizing committee will finalize athlete lists, complete facilities, conduct the remaining 11 sports, rehearse the mass performance and prepare all conditions for the opening and closing ceremonies.

The organizing committee is also urgently finalizing the detailed script for the torch relay, including a ceremony to receive the flame at the Ho Chi Minh Museum in Binh Thuan, Lam Dong Province, a memorial flame ceremony at Da Lat Martyrs Cemetery and the relay to Lam Vien Square.

The official opening ceremony on September 12 is expected to last 90 minutes and will be broadcast live.

For the 11th Da Lat Flower Festival 2026, preparations are proceeding in line with the established plan. Departments, agencies, local authorities and organizing units are continuing to seek feedback and finalize plans, scripts, organizational arrangements, designs, budget estimates and socialized funding sources.

According to the Lam Dong Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the festival will feature 11 major programs and 25 accompanying activities across the province, with most events concentrated in the Da Lat area.

The opening ceremony is scheduled for the evening of December 19, while an artistic program welcoming 2027 will be held on the evening of December 31 in combination with the festival’s closing ceremony.

Key programs, including flower spaces, flower and ornamental plant exhibitions, a vegetable and flower market, a tea-coffee-wine street, and the third Vietnam Brocade Culture Festival 2026, are being actively prepared.

Notably, 41 communes and wards have so far issued plans to participate in and respond to the festival, incorporating flower planting, tree planting and landscape improvements. Several localities have already developed flower streets, floral installations and decorative landscapes.

At the meeting, relevant departments, agencies and local authorities discussed and proposed solutions to address difficulties and obstacles, aiming to ensure that the province’s two major cultural and sporting events are held safely, professionally and economically.

Concluding the meeting, Vice Chairman Dinh Van Tuan emphasized that the first Lam Dong Provincial Sports Festival 2026 and the 11th Da Lat Flower Festival 2026 are two major cultural and sporting events in the province.

Both events are expected to promote the image of Lam Dong, its people and its distinctive cultural and tourism values.

Vice Chairman Dinh Van Tuan requested that departments, agencies, local authorities and relevant organizations proactively and urgently implement assigned tasks on schedule, while carefully reviewing every detail to ensure close and coordinated cooperation.

Event organization must prioritize safety, solemnity, practicality and cost efficiency, while paying close attention to public security, traffic management, healthcare, environmental sanitation and services for residents and visitors.

For the 11th Da Lat Flower Festival 2026, in addition to the responsibilities of specialized departments and agencies, localities must demonstrate greater initiative and creativity, strengthen the mobilization of social resources and create a widespread atmosphere of participation. The festival should truly become a celebration for residents and visitors, while further promoting the Lam Dong flower brand.
