Lam Dong Unveils Plan for 12-Lane Arterial Road Connecting National Transport Network

Lam Dong Province is moving forward with an ambitious 12-lane arterial road project, linking Le Duan – Truong Chinh intersection to the expressway interchange and the development zones along both sides. The route will serve as a direct corridor connecting the national expressway system with central Phan Thiet Ward, integrating key transportation hubs such as the expressway, high-speed railway station, and Phan Thiet bypass, thereby opening new development space and boosting regional socio-economic growth.

A Project Anticipated by Residents

Local residents have expressed strong support for the project, as it addresses a long-standing transportation bottleneck. Currently, vehicles traveling from the Dau Giay – Phan Thiet Expressway (Southern section of the North–South Expressway) into Phan Thiet Ward must detour through National Highway 1 – My Thanh (2.6 km with four lanes shared by cars and motorbikes) and continue an additional 13 km along National Highway 1 to reach the city, leading to heavy congestion—especially during weekends and holidays.

At Ba Bau intersection, where the expressway connects to National Highway 1, traffic jams often stretch travel time for the 16 km route to up to 30–60 minutes. Similarly, travelers from the north (via Khanh Hoa and Vinh Hao – Phan Thiet Expressway) must pass through National Highway 28, a narrow two-lane route taking over 30 minutes. These constraints have reduced the effectiveness of the North–South Expressway and increased the risk of traffic accidents, particularly as the newly merged Lam Dong Province experiences a surge in travel demand among residents and workers.

Project Details

According to the Provincial Transport Project Management Board, the new Phan Thiet Central Connection Road Project will link Phan Thiet Ward with the North–South high-speed railway. The road will be 12.5 km long, featuring a grade-separated expressway overpass and access ramps.

Phase 1 (Km0+000 – Km1+000): 37 m cross-section, two 10.5 m carriageways, a 4 m median, and 6 m sidewalks on each side.

Phase 2 (Km1+000 – end): Land clearance for the full 12-lane layout (79 m cross-section); initial construction of 6 lanes with 10 m sidewalks; includes two new reinforced concrete bridges.

The project also includes land acquisition along both sides of the road—50 to 100 meters from the sidewalks—to create land reserves for future commercial and urban development. The total clearance area is about 242 hectares, with a projected investment of nearly VND 5 trillion (including VND 2.7 trillion for compensation and resettlement). Construction is expected to take five years.

Implementation Timeline

The Provincial People’s Committee has issued official directives (Document No. 211, dated September 9) assigning tasks to relevant agencies:

Investment approval: by December 2025

Technical design and cost estimate approval: by June 2026

Contractor selection: by August 2026

Project completion: by 2028

The Department of Construction will assist Binh Thuan Ward in preparing zoning plans and resettlement layouts, ensuring land use is managed transparently and efficiently. Agencies are also tasked with accelerating environmental impact assessments, feasibility studies, and land clearance procedures to maintain progress.

A Strategic East–West Economic Corridor

The Vinh Hao – Phan Thiet Expressway Connector Road begins in Binh Thuan Ward and extends to Le Duan Street, linking with Nguyen Tat Thanh Avenue to form a major East–West urban axis. This new corridor will connect directly from the expressway into Phan Thiet’s urban core, integrating regional and interprovincial routes, and stimulating economic, commercial, and real estate development along its length.

From Le Duan Street, the route seamlessly ties into Thu Khoa Huan – Hung Vuong Road toward Mui Ne National Tourism Area, connects to Nguyen Tat Thanh Street leading to Doi Duong – Thuong Chanh Beach, and extends via Tran Hung Dao Road toward Tien Thanh, La Gi, and Ke Ga – Ham Tan.

With its comprehensive inter-regional connectivity and economic potential, the 12-lane arterial road is expected to become a key driver of Lam Dong’s urban expansion, trade development, and land value growth across the southern coastal region.
