Lam Dong weightlifter wins three bronze medals at World Youth Championships

Vietnamese weightlifter K'Duong, a Ma ethnic athlete from Lam Dong, won 3 bronze medals for Vietnam at the 2026 World Youth Weightlifting Championships in Egypt.

On May 8, the Lam Dong Sports Training and Competition Center under the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced that athlete K'Dương, a member of the Ma ethnic group born in 2007, won three bronze medals in the men’s 60kg category at the 2026 World Youth Weightlifting Championships.

According to the team’s registration list, Vietnam sent three athletes to compete in the men’s 60kg and 65kg divisions, along with the women’s 53kg category. K'Duong competed in the men’s 60kg class in both the snatch and clean and jerk events.

In the snatch, K'Duong posted his best lift of 125kg after three attempts, finishing in third place. In the clean and jerk, he maintained his strong form with a top lift of 157kg, also ranking third. With a combined total of 282kg, the young Vietnamese weightlifter secured third place overall and claimed another bronze medal.

The 2026 World Youth Weightlifting Championships took place in Egypt from May 2 to May 8. Vietnam’s weightlifting team won a total of four bronze medals through K'Duong in the men’s 60kg division and A Tieu in the men’s 65kg category.

The achievement of K'Duong is considered a positive sign for Vietnamese weightlifting, raising hopes for the country’s next generation of young athletes in the years ahead.
