Lam Dong Welcomes Young Travelers Seeking Meaningful Experiences
Young travelers are increasingly choosing Lam Dong for green tourism, local experiences, and slow living journeys close to nature.

From Fast Check-ins to Slow Travel
Years ago, trips to Da Lat were often short journeys packed with activities such as cloud hunting, café hopping, and visiting famous photo spots before quickly returning home.
In recent years, however, young travelers have changed the way they travel. Instead of focusing on how many places they can visit, many now prioritize meaningful experiences, relaxation, and emotional connections with nature and local culture.
This shift comes as Da Lat faces increasing tourism pressure from rapid visitor growth. Traffic congestion, overcrowded accommodations, and busy public spaces during peak seasons have encouraged many young tourists to seek quieter and more authentic experiences outside the city center.

Rather than staying only in central Da Lat, many visitors now choose forest homestays, agricultural experiences, trekking, camping, or community tourism activities in ethnic minority areas.
According to Nguyen Van Thanh, owner of a travel company in Cam Ly- Da Lat Ward, tourists today are looking for journeys with greater depth.
Previously, most visitors came to Da Lat for only two or three days before returning home. As travel routes connecting the highlands and the coast have improved, with itineraries combining relaxation, eco-tourism, and cultural experiences, many visitors now stay nearly twice as long.

Small accommodation businesses have also noticed that young travelers increasingly prefer “slow living” experiences. Many visitors are willing to spend an entire morning visiting local markets, enjoying coffee in pine forests, or participating in handicraft activities instead of following packed itineraries.

K’Rin, a community tourism guide in an ethnic minority area, said satellite destinations previously received little benefit because most tourists concentrated in central Da Lat.
If the province develops more routes connecting cultural experiences, craft villages, and eco-tourism in the future, it will not only create more spaces for young people to explore, but also give local residents greater opportunities to participate in tourism, increase their income, and preserve traditional culture.

Expanding Green Tourism Experiences
Tourism experts believe this shift reflects global travel trends, as younger tourists increasingly seek green tourism, authentic emotions, and closer connections with nature.
The changing behavior of visitors is also opening opportunities for Lam Dong to restructure tourism in a more sustainable direction.

Instead of relying heavily on central Da Lat, experiential tourism is helping surrounding localities participate more actively in tourism service chains.
Products such as community tourism, indigenous cultural experiences, eco-agriculture, and highland–coastal travel routes are gaining greater attention.

According to local tourism authorities, expanding regional tourism connections and attracting young travelers through experiential products will help redistribute tourist flows, reduce pressure on urban centers, and better utilize the tourism potential of different areas.
Nguyen Thi Thu Hien, Vice Chairwoman of the Lam Dong Business Association, said young travelers are no longer searching for a single destination but for connected journeys combining highland retreats, forest exploration, local culture, and coastal tourism.
“These connected travel experiences are gradually replacing the old style of visiting separate destinations individually,” she said.

In reality, tourism is shifting strongly from “traveling to check in” to “traveling to experience.” In this trend, Lam Dong’s strength lies not only in its landscapes but also in its ability to create layered journeys filled with nature, emotion, and authentic local experiences for young travelers.
