Nurturing Young Innovators

In recent years, competitions and activities such as the Youth Informatics Contest, the Creativity Contest for Children and Adolescents, the Youth Innovation and Startup Festival, the Young Innovators Competition, the Children's Mathematics Olympiad, the English Olympiad, online mathematics competitions and the “I Love Science – Codekitten Creativity” program have become familiar platforms for students across the province.

These activities go beyond testing academic knowledge. They provide opportunities for students to apply what they have learned in real-world settings, strengthen problem-solving skills and foster creativity.

Through these programs, participants gain exposure to coding, science and technology, STEM education, presentation skills, teamwork and idea development.

The growing popularity of these initiatives is reflected in the fact that youth councils at all levels have participated in the Youth Informatics Contest. Many localities have also proactively developed experiential learning models, bringing science and technology closer to students.

Science and technology activities are attracting growing interest among students

Dang Nguyen Khang, a fifth-grade student at Doan Thi Diem Primary School in Xuan Huong–Da Lat Ward and a member of the Lam Dong Provincial Youth Activity Center's team, said science and technology competitions have given him valuable opportunities to learn new skills, particularly in coding and logical thinking.

“Every time I take part in a competition or hands-on activity, I get to meet other students who share similar interests. We exchange ideas and learn a lot from one another. These experiences have made me more confident in expressing my thoughts and motivated me to keep learning,” Khang said.

Alongside technology-related activities, foreign languages continue to attract strong student participation.

Competitions such as the Children's English Contest, the English Olympiad and the English Animated Film Dubbing Contest provide opportunities for students to strengthen their communication skills, build confidence and broaden their understanding of the world

A Supportive Environment for Well-Rounded Development

Beyond provincial-level competitions, club networks have become important platforms for children's continuous learning and personal development.

The province currently maintains 1,859 clubs focused on learning, hobbies, life skills and children's rights. These clubs provide spaces where young people can share interests, develop new skills and nurture their talents.

At the Lam Dong Provincial Youth Activity Center, 26 clubs and teams with nearly 540 members operate on a regular basis. Chess clubs, young reporters' clubs, as well as skills, arts and science clubs have created opportunities for children to learn, interact and grow through a wide range of activities.

At the same time, the “Creative Experience Break Time” model has been introduced across all school youth teams in the province. Students use breaks between classes to participate in hands-on activities, educational games, simple science experiments and life-skills training.

Though modest in scale, these activities help create a more engaging learning environment while fostering curiosity, creativity and a spirit of exploration among children.

From science and technology competitions to hobby clubs, from language-learning activities to reading programs, opportunities for children in Lam Dong are becoming increasingly diverse.

According to Trinh Thi Loan, Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial Youth Council and Director of the Lam Dong Provincial Youth Activity Center, these educational and creative platforms help children identify and develop their talents while building essential skills, creative thinking and a proactive approach to learning.

“We hope that every activity and every club will provide a space where children can explore new experiences, express themselves and nurture their dreams. When given opportunities to develop in a well-rounded way, they will be better equipped to become responsible and contributing members of society in the future” Loan said.
