Mui Yen: A Pristine Paradise for Adventure Travelers
Tucked away behind the vast white sand dunes of Bau Trang, just 40–50 kilometers from downtown Phan Thiet, Mui Yen (Hoa Thang Commune, Lam Dong Province) is an emerging destination drawing young adventurers seeking to “recharge” after the bustle of city life.

Unlike luxury resorts or crowded beaches, Mui Yen is a true "deserted oasis," ideal for self-guided trips, camping, and recharging one's energy. Upon arriving at Mui Yen, one cannot help but feel small in the face of nature. Here, the sea is a deep blue, the salty sea breeze is refreshing, and you can witness sunsets that paint the horizon in vibrant hues—all reserved for nature lovers.
Accompanied by Nguyen Van Chien, a local guide, I ventured to Mui Yen — a place so hidden that even many locals and seasoned travelers have yet to discover it. Just 4 kilometers from Bau Trang tourist area toward the sea, the journey leads through rocky paths and soft sand, flanked by towering cacti that make you feel as though you’ve wandered into a desert. But beyond the arid landscape lies an astonishing paradise of rugged cliffs and endless open skies.
The name “Mui Yen” (Swallow Cape) comes from its rock formations that jut into the sea, resembling swiftlets perched above the waves. Standing about 30 meters above sea level, these cliffs are home to countless swallows nesting each spring, giving the cape both its name and unique charm.
Unlike the gentle and picturesque scenes typical of coastal destinations in Lam Dong, Mui Yen reveals its wild and mysterious beauty. Waves crash powerfully against massive rocks, creating a dramatic and majestic scene.

Tourism has yet to reach this remote gem — only shared among small, tight-knit groups of adventure seekers. From the highest cliffs, we could observe the stunning panorama where the sea and sky meet—the azure waters blending with the blue sky and distant green hills, creating a breathtaking masterpiece that can only be truly appreciated in person.
As the sun dips below the horizon, standing on the promontory overlooking the sea, I watched as the space was draped in a dreamy veil, blending vibrant colors with the tranquility of the sea and sky. Mui Yen transforms into a dreamscape of colors — vibrant oranges, pinks, and purples reflecting across the deep blue sea. The last rays of sunlight filtered through the rocky formations and lush green hills, creating a scene that was both majestic and gentle. Chien and his friends sat on the grassy slope, watching flocks of swallows dart back to their nests, the fiery sun sink slowly into the horizon, it feel like time stand still — leaving behind only a profound sense of peace.

This is not merely a place to check in; it offers a chance to momentarily forget the overwhelmed work and the pressures of life, it also allows you to slow down, breathes in fresh air, and reconnects with nature. “In the dry season, the fine white sands mixed with rugged rocks create an incredible view. Sometimes we camp overnight, bringing tents, grills, and campfires — it’s a real energy boost,” said Chien. “Last year, we even saw a few cars making it here despite the tough road — mostly young people who love adventure and exploring new places.”
For those with a free spirit and a thirst for discovery, Mui Yen is not just a destination but a journey of exploration. In the near future, this hidden wonder behind Hoa Thang’s “coastal desert” may well be awakened to become one of Vietnam’s most captivating attractions.
