More than a competition

In the closing days of June, arenas and sports venues throughout Lam Dong were alive with energy as applause resonated from the audience. On the running track, within the swimming pool, and on courts and in martial arts venues, countless students demonstrated their resolve, sportsmanship towards their rivals, and an authentic love for athletic competition.

The 2026 National School Sports Games gathered 2,222 student athletes from 30 provincial and municipal Departments of Education and Training, alongside nearly 600 officials, coaches, and leaders of delegations. Participants competed in five sports: athletics, swimming, table tennis, badminton, and traditional Vietnamese martial arts.

Over the course of ten days filled with competition, 214 medal sets were presented to outstanding individuals and teams. However, the event offered something far more significant than just medal counts. Each match became an opportunity to learn about perseverance, collaboration, and the drive to exceed personal boundaries.

Representing Ca Mau Province, athlete Chau Thuy Lam expressed: "It’s thrilling and daunting to compete with such skilled athletes from around the country. We continuously motivate each other to perform at our best and meet the hopes of our teachers and families. The greatest joy for me is making new friends, learning from them, and gaining increased inspiration to follow my passion for sports."

Behind every sprint to the finish line and every medal earned, there are months of committed training by students, with support from teachers, families, and schools. Therefore, the success of the Games should be evaluated not just by athletic accomplishments but also by society's increasing acknowledgment of the significance of physical education within schools.

As noted by coach Truong Minh Quang from the Thai Nguyen delegation, the primary goal of the team was not merely to secure medals but to provide students with invaluable experience in competing at a national tournament.

Promoting school sports

As the host province, Lam Dong received significant acclaim for its efficient and professional organization of the event. Beyond providing high-quality venues for competition, accommodations, and logistical support for the participating teams, the host team also achieved remarkable outcomes.

With a total of 208 athletes and coaches competing across all five sports, Lam Dong attained second place in table tennis, second in traditional Vietnamese martial arts, third in athletics, and received an encouragement award in badminton. These accomplishments demonstrate the province's increasing commitment to physical education and the ongoing progress of school sports.

The students trained seriously for many months. Most importantly, they competed with unity, confidence, and respect for their opponents. After every tournament, they become more mature in character, determination, and teamwork. That is the greatest success.
