New roads transform rural communities

Investment in roads does more than improve travel. It also creates new opportunities for production, trade and local livelihoods. In Bac Binh and Ham Thuan Bac, new roads funded by the State and supported by local residents are gradually transforming rural communities and opening new opportunities for development.

Paving the way for agricultural development

For residents of Phan Hiep and Phan Hoa villages in Bac Binh Commune, the Cha Vau road has long provided an important connection to local farming areas. However, its deteriorating condition, particularly during the rainy season, has made travel difficult and frequently disrupted the transport of agricultural supplies and produce.

In late July, construction began on a project to concrete the Cha Vau inter-village agricultural road, bringing renewed optimism to local residents. The route stretches about 6.1 km, with a six-metre-wide roadbed and a 3.5-metre-wide cement concrete surface.

The project has a total investment of nearly VND 20 billion, funded by the provincial budget under the 2026 - 2030 medium-term public investment plan, and is scheduled for implementation between 2026 and 2028.

For local residents, Cha Vau represents more than just a newly paved road. Once completed, it will make it easier to transport supplies into farming areas and agricultural products to market, while reducing travel time and costs and providing better conditions for production.

According to Nguyen Thuc Phuoc Hai, Chairman of the Bac Binh Commune People's Committee, the road will directly serve local travel and agricultural production needs. The contractor has been required to follow the approved design and ensure construction quality, safety and timely progress.

The supervision unit will also work closely with the community investment supervision board throughout construction, while local villages and households have been encouraged to cooperate so the project can be completed and put into use as soon as possible.

Joining hands to build better roads

While public investment in Bac Binh is improving access to farming areas, residents of Ham Tri Village in Ham Thuan Bac Commune are contributing land from their own properties to widen a local road.

In Group 8, the road near Song Cai Bridge has remained largely unpaved for years, with several narrow sections becoming muddy during the rainy season, making travel and the transport of agricultural produce difficult.

To prepare the site for construction, the commune's Economic Division, the Ham Tri Village Management Board and local households agreed in late July on land donations and boundary marking for the road expansion.

Ha Thi Minh Tri, head of Ham Tri Village, said the planned upgrade covers about 3 km, with a five-metre-wide roadbed and a 3.5-metre-wide concrete surface. Around 40% of the existing route is only 2.5 metres wide, prompting local authorities to encourage affected households to donate land for the expansion. So far, all affected households have agreed, with more than 3,000 sq.m of land expected to be donated.

Nguyen Minh Han, one of the residents donating land, said his family supported the project because locals had long awaited improvements to the road. Once widened and paved, it will make travel and goods transport much easier, particularly during the rainy season.

Fellow resident Luong Tan Hoang agreed, saying it was worthwhile for each household to contribute a portion of land because those living along the route would directly benefit from easier travel and agricultural transport.

From publicly funded roads in Bac Binh to land voluntarily donated by residents in Ham Thuan Bac, the projects take different approaches but share the same goal: improving rural infrastructure and local livelihoods. State investment provides the foundation, while community support helps turn infrastructure plans into tangible improvements for local residents.

Residents hope construction will begin and be completed soon, making travel easier, particularly during the rainy season, while improving the transport of agricultural produce and supporting local production
