Ong Dia Rock Beach: Where the Sea Whispers and the Rocks Tell Stories

Thu Ha 29/04/2026 21:10

Tucked away along Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street—the coastal artery linking Phu Thuy Ward and Mui Ne—Ong Dia Rock Beach offers a peaceful alternative to the region’s more bustling beaches. Over time, it has quietly become a favored stop for travelers exploring Lam Dong’s coastal areas.

The Rock Formations and the Serenity of the Sea

Unlike the long, open stretches of many other beaches, Ong Dia Rock Beach has a charm of its own. From the roadside, visitors are greeted by a classic palette of blue sea, white sand and gray rock.

Rock formations of varying heights, naturally scattered along the shore, jut out into the sea in succession, creating a landscape that is both intimate and distinctive.

These rock formations give Ong Dia Rock Beach its distinctive character. Some are smooth and rounded, while others are jagged and sharp, with a few resembling boats, soaring dragons, or sea creatures resting offshore.

Day and night, waves crash against the rocky outcrops, gradually wearing down and shaping the rocks into rugged, vivid forms. The steady rhythm of white surf breaking along the shore creates a soothing atmosphere that puts visitors at ease.

Beyond its natural beauty, Ong Dia Rock Beach is also steeped in local folklore. Legend has it that a large rock once stood facing the mainland, resembling an old man. Fishermen would stop there to burn incense and pray for safe voyages and favorable weather. Over time, believing their prayers had been answered, local people came to call the formation “Ong Dia,” or the Earth God.

This is my first time here, and the feeling is hard to describe. It is not the kind of dazzling or overwhelming beauty that strikes you at first sight. But the longer you stay, the more captivating it becomes. Everything feels slow and peaceful. I just want to linger, watch the ocean and let my mind rest.

Over time, although the original rock formation has lost its initial shape, local faith in the site endures. A small shrine now stands on the rocky shore. Before each voyage, fishermen still stop to burn incense and pray for safety. These silent prayers have become a quiet ritual, deeply woven into the lives of the local coastal community.

Beyond its spiritual significance, the rocky shore is deeply woven into the daily lives of local fishermen. At dawn or dusk, visitors can easily spot coracles resting along the shore, nets drying under the sun, or fishermen preparing for their next voyage. Everything unfolds at a slow, unhurried pace.

“It isn’t just about the scenery; there is a very authentic feel here. It feels like touching a place that carries both life and memory.” Huynh Phi Hung, a young traveler from Ho Chi Minh City said

After returning from fishing trips, local villagers haul their coracles onto the sandy shore.

Beyond sightseeing, visitors can swim, stroll along the beach, or enjoy activities such as surfing and jet skiing. Those seeking a more hands-on experience can join local fishermen in harvesting oysters, go fishing, or buy fresh seafood straight from returning boats, gaining a closer look at coastal life.

Touching the Rocks, Listening to the Sea’s Stories

In recent years, Ong Dia Rock Beach has been the subject of renewed planning to keep pace with tourism development. In 2026, a renovation project worth about VND 11 billion was launched. Funded by a private enterprise, the project aims not only to improve the landscape but also to preserve the site’s inherent values.

The area has been expanded to provide more space for visitors to rest and explore. However, the rock formations—the very soul of the beach—remain at the heart of preservation efforts.

What sets the project apart is its approach. Rather than completely overhauling the site, each adjustment is designed to highlight the existing landscape. The theme “Touching the Rocks, Listening to the Sea’s Stories” is more than just a title; it reflects a vision of the rocky shore as a living space where nature, people, and memory coexist.

According to the plan, the project is scheduled to break ground in late April 2026 and be completed by September 2 of the same year. New features such as a small plaza, rest areas, and a children’s playground will be added, while the rock formations will remain largely intact and continue to serve as the enduring centerpiece of the entire space.

Despite the planned changes, Ong Dia Rock Beach retains its familiar rhythm. The waves keep their steady beat, the wind whispers through the crevices, and local life continues at an unhurried pace. Neither grand nor ostentatious, it is this quiet simplicity that draws visitors back—to reconnect with the authentic, intimate charm of Lam Dong’s coastal region.
