Lam Dong possesses an abundant natural advantage in both wind and sunlight — two key resources that are opening the door to strong growth in renewable energy, particularly offshore wind and solar power.

Abundant Natural Potential

According to Mr. Le Trong Yen, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee and Vice Chairman of the Lam Dong People’s Committee, the province has rare natural conditions ideal for renewable energy development, thanks to high wind hours, steady wind speeds, and strong solar radiation.

Official data shows that after merging, Lam Dong now has 192 kilometers of coastline and a fishing ground covering over 52,000 square kilometers — favorable conditions for developing offshore wind farms. In addition, its vast highland terrain and year-round sunlight make Lam Dong an attractive destination for solar energy investors.

The development of renewable energy — including wind and solar power — will help reduce dependence on fossil fuels. Promoting renewable energy has been identified as a key direction aligned with the province’s industrial development plan through 2030.

Vice Chairman Le Trong Yen emphasized

Over 47% of Electricity Capacity from Renewables

According to the Department of Industry and Trade, Lam Dong currently has 97 renewable energy projects in operation, with a total capacity exceeding 3,887 MW — accounting for more than 47% of the province’s total power generation capacity.

Under Vietnam’s updated National Power Development Plan (PDP VIII), the total capacity of renewable energy sources allocated to Lam Dong is expected to reach over 5,625 MW by 2030, and more than 5,532 MW in the 2031–2035 period.

The approval of PDP VIII has created new opportunities for Lam Dong to attract investors, expand green and renewable energy projects, and stimulate local economic growth.

A New Driver for Industry and Daily Life

In recent years, the province has actively implemented a series of coordinated measures to harness its wind and solar potential while attracting participation from various economic sectors.

Renewable energy projects not only ensure a stable electricity supply but also meet dry-season demand, boost industrial development, and strengthen local security and defense.

The rapid increase in electricity capacity has become a key driver of Lam Dong’s industrialization process, ensuring a stable energy supply for production and everyday life.

Sustainable Growth Toward a Regional Energy Hub

According to the Department of Industry and Trade, Lam Dong’s renewable energy strategy follows the guidelines of PDP VIII and related adjustments — optimizing the entire system from generation to transmission, distribution, and efficient consumption.

The province also aims to develop an integrated industrial ecosystem based on renewable and new energy, aligned with green, circular, and low-carbon economic models — consistent with global trends in just and sustainable energy transition.

Looking ahead, Lam Dong plans to become a Regional Renewable Energy and Industrial Service Hub, targeting the development of around 2,000 MW of offshore wind power between 2025 and 2030, and 2,300 MW during 2031–2035.

Wind and sunlight — the natural gifts of Lam Dong — are gradually being transformed into green energy resources for sustainable growth, helping shape the future of clean energy across this Central Highlands province.
