The Flame of Compassion

This humanitarian initiative has been held regularly every Saturday morning since 2023, jointly organized by the Duc Trong Regional Medical Center, the Duc Trong Volunteer Group, and the support of local benefactors.

Each week, the kitchen serves 200 to 500 freshly cooked vegetarian meals, full of nutrition and food safety. These meals are not only for patients in difficult circumstances but also a gesture of comfort and care for their loved ones.

Before dawn, the kitchen hums with activity — volunteers washing vegetables, stirring pots, packing lunch boxes. Despite the hard work, smiles never fade. They know that beyond the hospital doors, people are waiting for these warm, heartfelt meals.

Hearts that Give

For Tran Thi Hong Nhung, a dedicated member of the volunteer group for three years, every Saturday morning begins with service.

“I arrive at the kitchen around 6 a.m. to help prepare the meals. We simply want to bring warmth and kindness to patients and their families. My family fully supports me in this volunteer work, and that gives me strength to continue.”

Nhung doesn’t just help with cooking — she also donates fresh vegetables and fruits, ensuring the meals are both healthy and wholesome.

For those involved, this kitchen is more than a place to cook — it’s a place of connection and compassion, where goodwill spreads from heart to heart. Each meal, though simple, carries immense love and becomes a source of emotional strength for those in need.

A Meal Worth More Than Money

For patients and caregivers, these “0-VND” meals bring not only nourishment but hope.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hai (65), whose family is caring for a long-term patient, said emotionally:

“We live far away and hospital expenses are already difficult. Every Saturday, receiving a hot vegetarian meal like this warms my heart. It eases part of our burden and lets us focus on caring for our loved one.”

Mrs. Le Thi Thanh (48), a chronically ill patient, shared tearfully:

“Each meal gives me strength. The food is clean, nutritious, and prepared with such care. I don’t feel abandoned — it lifts my spirit and gives me hope to recover soon.”

A Home of Shared Kindness

The charity kitchen at Duc Trong Regional Medical Center has become a bridge of love, embodying the Vietnamese spirit of “loving others as yourself.”

Through every donated grain of rice and every act of kindness, this kitchen continues to nourish both body and soul, giving those in hardship renewed faith and resilience to move forward.
