Lam Dong tightens regulations on motorbike rentals for foreign tourists
On April 15, Ho Van Muoi, Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial People’s Committee, instructed relevant departments and local authorities to tighten oversight of motorbike rental services for foreign tourists in order to ensure traffic safety and public order.

Rising tourism, growing safety concerns
Lam Dong welcomed more than 20.76 million visitors in 2025, including about 1.3 million international arrivals.
In the first three months of 2026, the province recorded over 6 million visitors, with more than 524,000 foreign tourists.
Officials say the number of foreign visitors renting motorbikes for self-guided travel is increasing, driven by simple procedures and the rapid growth of rental services.
However, many tourists are unfamiliar with Vietnam’s traffic laws and local road conditions, leading to violations and a number of serious accidents, including fatalities.
Stricter enforcement measures
Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial People’s Committee Ho Van Muoi has instructed police to step up patrols and inspections in tourist areas and locations with high concentrations of foreign visitors.
Authorities will also check rental businesses, focusing on licensing compliance and verification of valid international driving permits.
Rental providers found supplying vehicles to unqualified drivers will face strict penalties.
Coordination across agencies
The Department of Foreign Affairs will coordinate handling of incidents involving foreign nationals and report to relevant diplomatic agencies when necessary.
The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has been tasked with urging travel companies and accommodation providers to comply with traffic regulations and advise tourists against renting motorbikes without valid licenses.
Local authorities are required to strengthen public awareness campaigns and ensure rental businesses commit to serving only qualified drivers.
Officials say the measures aim to improve road safety while maintaining a safe and sustainable tourism environment as international arrivals continue to rise.
