According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, Lam Dong is currently the country’s leading province for macadamia cultivation, with 11,317 hectares under cultivation and annual output of nearly 1,969 tons as of the end of 2025.

Thanks to favorable climate and soil conditions, macadamia trees have emerged as a profitable crop, helping diversify agricultural production and provide stable livelihoods for local residents.

The market has seen a growing range of macadamia-based products, including dried nuts, kernels, vegetable oil, and more deeply processed products.

However, the development of this sector still reveals several limitations. Production remains fragmented, with a lack of strong linkages between farmers and businesses; processing capacity has yet to meet requirements; and product quality is inconsistent. These are considered major bottlenecks that need to be addressed to enhance competitiveness amid increasingly deep integration.

During the workshop, numerous participants highlighted the necessity for enhanced coordination, deeper engagement, and practical collaboration among the "three stakeholders"—the State, businesses, and farmers—to ensure the sustainable growth of the macadamia industry.

In this context, the State puts in place policies and provides guidance and support; businesses lead market development through investment in processing and distribution; and farmers remain central to production.

Furthermore, delegates emphasized the necessity of ensuring high-quality seedlings, implementing uniform cultivation methods, and investing in post-harvest technologies to enhance product quality.

In his concluding remarks, Vu Dinh Cuong, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, said that the issuance of the trademark registration certificate for “Lam Dong Macadamia” by the Intellectual Property Office of Vietnam under the Ministry of Science and Technology was highly significant for the local macadamia industry.

This not only establishes a legal foundation to safeguard the product’s reputation, brand, and origin but also serves as a crucial instrument to boost competitiveness, raise product value, cultivate consumer confidence, and widen the domestic market while paving the way for exports.

The certification mark also provides a foundation for modernizing and streamlining production, strengthening linkages across the value chain from cultivation and harvesting to processing and consumption, improving quality assurance and traceability, and gradually building a strong brand for Lam Dong macadamia.

Looking ahead, the agricultural sector aims to effectively capitalize on the protected designation for macadamia by concentrating on enhancing the management and utilization system of the “Lam Dong Macadamia” certification mark, including regulations on its use, quality assurance, and traceability.

Simultaneously, the local authorities will assess and guide the development of farming regions in accordance with ecological conditions, while restructuring the agricultural sector towards sustainability. Furthermore, initiatives to promote trade and market products will be intensified through fairs, exhibitions, and online commerce platforms.

Lam Dong’s agricultural sector is also encouraging businesses to invest in advanced processing, strengthen production-to-market linkages, and expand the application of science and technology to improve the productivity, quality, and value of macadamia products.
