Working Together to Keep Forests Green and Streams Clean
Community-driven initiatives in Lang Biang are helping protect forests, clean streams, and preserve vital water sources while creating a greener environment.
Protecting Forests and Water Sources

Lang Biang–Da Lat Ward is stepping up environmental protection efforts through tree planting, flower care, and stream clean-up campaigns. Keeping forests green and waterways clean has become a key priority for one of Lam Dong’s largest forested areas.
With nearly 40,000 residents and a total area of more than 322 square kilometers, about 80% of the ward is covered by forest and lies within the core zone of Bidoup–Nui Ba National Park's biosphere reserve. It is also home to Dankia–Suoi Vang Lake, the main source of domestic water for Da Lat.
According to Vice Chairman of the Ward People's Committee Le Chi Quang Minh, protecting forests and water resources requires the participation of both local authorities and the community.
He said environmental awareness campaigns have mobilized youth groups, women's unions, farmers, and other organizations to work together toward building a greener and cleaner Lang Biang.
Community Efforts for a Cleaner Environment

Women's Union members in Dong Tam neighborhood regularly maintain roadside flower gardens, collect waste, and care for public green spaces. Local volunteers also help prune trees and clean public areas before the rainy season.
To protect Dankia Lake, the ward is working closely with the agricultural sector to encourage farmers not to discharge waste into the reservoir and to properly collect agricultural waste.
Young volunteers have taken the lead in cleaning the lakeside while promoting environmentally responsible farming practices within their communities.
Turning Waste into Action

One of the ward's notable initiatives is the "Exchange Waste for Gifts" program organized by the Farmers' Union.
Each month, farmers bring used pesticide bottles and packaging to designated collection points in exchange for practical items such as gloves, hats, and school supplies. The program helps reduce environmental pollution while encouraging safer disposal of agricultural waste.
As the rainy season approaches, local authorities are also clearing streams and drainage systems, including Da Lach, Tria, Prenn, and Cam Ly streams, to improve water flow and reduce the risks of localized flooding and erosion.
Through these coordinated efforts, Lang Biang- Da Lat Ward is working to preserve its forests, protect vital water sources, and create a cleaner and more sustainable living environment for both residents and visitors.
