Lam Dong Red Cross Hosts Psychological First Aid and Disaster Response Training

On July 2, the Lam Dong Red Cross Society, in collaboration with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), launched a comprehensive training workshop on Psychological First Aid (PFA), Protection, Gender and Inclusion (PGI), and Community Engagement and Accountability (CEA).

The three-day workshop, which runs from July 2 to 4, is part of the emergency relief and early recovery project following the 2025 Central Vietnam floods.

The opening ceremony was attended by Nguyen Quang Minh, Chairman of the Lam Dong Red Cross Society, alongside 30 Red Cross officials representing various local wards and communes, including Ham Thang, Ham Thanh, Ham Thuan Bac, Tan Lap, Tien Thanh, Ham Thuan Nam, Hiep Thanh, and Phu Thuy.

The three-day workshop, running from July 2 to 4, aims to equip Red Cross staff and members of the Provincial Disaster Response Team (PDRT) with comprehensive knowledge and skills, while building a core task force capable of carrying out response operations and leading future local-level training sessions.

Throughout the training, participants are being equipped to handle various forms of psychological crises commonly observed during and after natural disasters, storms, and floods. Key competencies include connecting victims with medical services, social welfare benefits, and their families; psychological self-care techniques to mitigate stress and burnout among relief personnel; identifying and preventing risks of gender-based violence and sexual abuse against women and children at evacuation centers; Setting up hotlines to protect vulnerable groups and ensure transparent relief operations.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Nguyen Quang Minh, Chairman of the Lam Dong Red Cross Society, emphasized that the participants were carefully selected from both the provincial level and the targeted project communes.

"This force will serve as the core nucleus and is scheduled to be officially rostered into the province's Disaster Response Team in the near future," Minh stated.

Therefore, the workshop is not merely a short-term skills course but also a mandatory, long-term preparation step for officials expected to play a core role in the Lam Dong Provincial Disaster Response Team.
