Lam Dong Industry Eyes Strong Growth in Second Half of 2026

Although Lam Dong’s industrial sector fell short of its projected growth scenario in the first half of 2026, it continued to record encouraging signs as output of most key industrial products increased and many enterprises secured orders through the end of the year, laying the groundwork for stronger growth in the months ahead.

Electricity generation remains one of the bright spots of Lam Dong’s energy industry.

Key Industrial Sectors Maintain Growth Momentum

According to the Lam Dong Department of Industry and Trade, the province’s Industrial Production Index (IIP) increased by 9.46% in the first six months of 2026, below the projected growth rate of 10.8%.

Bien Tan Tai, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, said several factors weighed on the sector’s growth, including rising fuel prices, which increased transportation, production and input costs for businesses; slower-than-expected progress of industrial investment projects; and an assigned alumina production target of 1.75 million tonnes, exceeding the plant’s designed capacity of 1.5 million tonnes.

In addition, the sharp decline in global alumina prices significantly affected industrial production performance.

Despite falling short of the growth scenario, the sector recorded positive results, with 16 of the province’s 18 major industrial products posting year-on-year growth. Many enterprises also expanded into new markets and secured large-volume export orders.

In eastern Lam Dong, aside from electricity generation, businesses engaged in seafood processing and exports, garment manufacturing, footwear production, rubber and cashew processing all maintained solid growth.

In the seafood industry, the start of the peak southern fishing season boosted catches, with processed seafood exports exceeding 12,700 tonnes in the first six months, up more than 24.1% year on year.

The garment industry—one of the province’s largest employers—also recorded growth of between 15% and 22%.

Phan Quang Cuong, Deputy General Director of Nha Be Duc Linh Garment Co., Ltd. in Duc Linh Commune, said the company's production and export revenue rose by around 15% compared with the same period last year. Having secured substantial export orders through the end of 2026, the company has opened an additional production line and recruited about 100 more workers to meet manufacturing demand.

In the rubber processing sector, Nguyen Cong Tam, General Director of Binh Thuan Rubber One Member Co., Ltd., said this year’s latex harvesting, procurement and processing season has progressed favorably thanks to strong market prices.

According to Tam, the Vietnam Rubber Industry Group set a planned price of approximately VND47 million per tonne of finished rubber for 2026, while the company is currently selling at around VND55 million per tonne.

“With current market conditions, the company expects double-digit profit growth and aims to contribute more than VND40 billion to the state budget in 2026,” Nguyen Cong Tam said.

New Projects Create Room for Faster Growth

According to Bien Tan Tai, although industrial growth has yet to meet expectations, many products have still recorded increases of more than 20%.

During the second half of the year, the peak fishing season, coffee harvest and rubber tapping season are expected to provide abundant raw materials, creating favorable conditions for processing industries and export production to continue expanding.

Tai added that the commissioning of several large-scale industrial projects—including the Dak Nong Aluminum Electrolysis Plant, Neotek Vietnam Plant and Novita Plant—along with increased electricity output, will provide additional growth momentum for Lam Dong’s industrial sector in the remaining months of the year, making an important contribution toward achieving the province’s targeted double-digit GRDP growth.

To support the province’s double-digit economic growth target, the industry and trade sector has set a goal of raising GRDP by 10–10.5%, while increasing the Industrial Production Index by 13.07%.

Building on its first-half performance, together with growth opportunities from processing industries, exports and newly commissioned industrial projects, the sector expects to achieve its planned targets and help drive Lam Dong’s GRDP to double-digit growth in 2026.
