Vietnamese textiles shine on international runways
Vietnamese fashion has appeared on major international runways in Milan, Paris, New York, Tokyo, and Kuala Lumpur, reflecting local designers' efforts to bring Vietnamese creativity to the world. These collections stand out for their use of indigenous materials, including Bao Loc silk and Central Highlands brocade. Through these fabrics, they tell the story of Vietnam's cultural identity.
According to Huynh Tan Phuoc, Chairman of the Board of Vietnam Silk House, which has partnered with designer Minh Hanh on numerous fashion events, each of her collections tells the story of Vietnamese identity through fashion. At the heart of these collections are Bao Loc silk and Central Highlands brocade, along with the stories of mulberry farmers, silk weavers and brocade artisans who have preserved traditional craftsmanship for generations.
Phuoc said these stories have resonated with audiences wherever Minh Hanh has showcased her collections. "Fashion is more than changing trends. It is also about identity, culture and history. Minh Hanh's collections demonstrate that the true value of fashion lies in its cultural depth," he said.
After returning from a fashion event in Malaysia, designer K'Jona, based in Cam Ly - Da Lat Ward, said indigenous materials such as Central Highlands brocade give Vietnamese fashion a distinctive identity while helping preserve traditional cultural values.
"It is a source of pride to see Vietnamese indigenous materials reaching international fashion platforms," K'Jona said.
The growing presence of designers such as Minh Hanh and K'Jona on international runways reflects the deeper integration of Vietnamese fashion into the global industry. Their collections showcase not only contemporary design but also the cultural heritage embedded in Vietnamese materials.
