“Connecting the Vietnamese Bloodline”: Deep and Lasting Impressions
The national blood donation campaign, Red Journey, has come a long way in supporting patients across the country. In Lam Dong, the 2026 campaign continues to affirm the profound humanitarian spirit, noble gestures and strong sense of responsibility and solidarity of local people toward the community.
14 Years of Persevering in Connecting Vietnamese Bloodlines
Initiated in 2013 in response to a critical shortage of blood for medical treatment during the summer months, Red Journey has carried out a meaningful 14-year humanitarian mission. Starting with 15 provinces and cities in its inaugural year, the initiative has now grown to encompass 32 provinces and cities across the country, making it the largest voluntary blood donation campaign in Vietnam.
This movement has not only transformed the attitudes of millions toward voluntary blood donation and raised awareness of thalassemia but has also provided meaningful practical experiences that have contributed to the growth and development of thousands of young volunteers.
In Lam Dong, the movement for voluntary blood donation has significantly expanded over the years, becoming a remarkable showcase of compassion within the community. Many people have donated blood 20 or 30 times, with some individuals donating over 70 times, always willing to provide the gift of life to those in need.
Lam Dong is also one of only five provinces in the country that have consistently partnered with the Red Journey initiative for 14 years. Over 13 editions, the program has collected more than 45,000 blood units, helping to meet the blood demand for emergency care and medical treatment locally while also supporting hospitals at the central level.
In addition to organizing blood donation drives and honoring outstanding blood donors, Red Journey presented 30 gifts to critically ill patients and underprivileged children with thalassemia undergoing treatment at Lam Dong General Hospital. This initiative promotes compassion and provides patients with increased motivation and confidence to overcome their health challenges.
Nguyen Quang Minh, Standing Deputy Head of the Lam Dong Provincial Steering Committee for Mobilizing Voluntary Blood Donations, highlighted that the initiative has contributed to increasing the number of blood donors, fostering sustainable volunteer models, and instilling compassion in younger generations.
A clear indicator of the movement's significant impact is the success of the "Pink Drops of the Flower Land" Blood Donation Festival, which drew a diverse crowd and collected 801 units of blood.
Honoring the Flowers of Compassion
As part of the ongoing campaign activities, Lam Dong Province honored 125 exceptional organizations, families, and individuals for their remarkable contributions to the voluntary blood donation initiative. This event served as an opportunity for the community to acknowledge and appreciate the silent efforts of the volunteers.
Notably, Nguyen Van Thanh’s family from Phan Thiet Ward was honored to receive a Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister for their outstanding contributions to voluntary blood donation, with family members having donated blood a total of 70 times.
In evaluating the movement, Nguyen Quang Minh stated that these individuals are like beautiful flowers in the province's garden of good deeds. Prompt recognition and commendation not only show appreciation but also serve as powerful motivation for the community to join hands in spreading kindness.
Representing the honorees, Do Thanh Trung, an officer from the Youth Affairs Division in the Political Affairs Office of the Provincial Police, expressed his pride in donating blood to save lives. Since 2024, not only has he donated blood directly on multiple occasions, but he has also provided guidance and assisted in organizing seven blood donation events within the provincial police, which resulted in the collection of 1,200 units of blood.
Do Thanh Trung stated that for young officers in the People’s Public Security, each unit of blood donated not only aids in saving lives but also exemplifies their pioneering spirit and sense of responsibility towards the community. He urged those who meet health criteria to actively donate blood, spread compassion, and bring hope to patients in need.
The 14th Red Journey campaign in Lam Dong has left deep and lasting impressions. The precious drops of blood donated by local people will continue to save lives, keep dreams alive, and further strengthen the Vietnamese people's tradition of mutual love, solidarity and support.
