First Aluminum Smelter Completes Vietnam's Bauxite Value Chain

The Dak Nong Aluminum Smelter Project, developed by Tran Hong Quan Metallurgy Co., Ltd., occupies 129.42 hectares at Nhan Co Industrial Park.

  • Designed with a total capacity of 450,000 metric tons per year, the project is being developed in three phases:
    • Phase 1: 150,000 metric tons annually;
    • Phase 2: 300,000 metric tons annually;
    • Phase 3: 450,000 metric tons annually, scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2027.

Construction of the project began in 2015. As Vietnam's first primary aluminum production project, it forms the final deep-processing link in the industrial value chain, extending from bauxite mining and alumina refining to aluminum smelting.

Government: Domestic Aluminum Will Strengthen Economic Resilience

Delivering keynote remarks, General Phan Van Giang, Member of the Politburo, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense, described the production of Vietnam's first aluminum ingot as a historic achievement demonstrating the country's ability to master aluminum electrolysis technology.

Đại tướng Phan Văn Giang, Ủy viên Bộ Chính trị, Phó Thủ tướng Chính phủ, Bộ trưởng Bộ Quốc phòng nhấn mạnh, nguồn nhôm ổn định trong nước sẽ góp phần giảm phụ thuộc vào nhập khẩu, hạn chế rủi ro đứt gãy chuỗi cung ứng, cải thiện cán cân thương mại, nâng cao tỷ lệ nội địa hóa và tăng khả năng chống chịu của nền kinh tế trước những biến động từ bên ngoài
General Phan Van Giang says domestic aluminum production will reduce import dependence, strengthen supply-chain resilience, improve Vietnam's trade balance and increase localization across manufacturing industries.

He said the project establishes a new growth driver for Vietnam's metallurgical industry while supporting the country's industrial modernization.

This achievement reflects not only the capability, determination and aspirations of Vietnamese enterprises, but also realizes the Party's and the State's vision of developing a modern aluminum industry with higher value-added production.
