Lam Dong Wins 11 Medals at 2026 National U21 and U23 Junior Canoeing Championships
The Lam Dong junior canoeing team won 11 medals at the 2026 National U21 and U23 Junior Canoeing Championships, including two golds and nine bronzes. The competition concluded on July 31 after more than a week of competition in Hai Phong.
The event ran from July 23 to 31 and was jointly organized by the Hai Phong Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism along with the Vietnam Rowing Federation.
This competition included two championships: the 2026 National U19 and U23 Rowing Championships and the 2026 National U21 and U23 Junior Canoeing Championships, drawing over 500 athletes from 21 different provinces, cities, and sectors.
The 2026 National U19 and U23 Rowing Championships consisted of 29 events for two age categories, under-19 and under-23, with men's, women's and mixed events contested over 2,000 meters.
Meanwhile, the 2026 National U21 and U23 Junior Canoeing Championships featured 108 events across four age groups—U16, U18, U21 and U23—for men's, women's and mixed-gender competitions. Athletes competed in canoe and kayak events over distances of 1,000, 500 and 200 meters.
The annual competition aims to promote participation and competition in water sports while identifying, selecting and developing promising athletes to strengthen the national teams for regional and international competitions.
The Lam Dong team included three coaches and 19 athletes—17 men and two women—who competed in various canoe events.
Lam Dong claimed two gold medals: Vo Tran Anh Thang won the junior men's 200-meter individual canoe event, while Nguyen Minh Hau and Vo Hung Thai took gold in the junior men's 200-meter pair race.
Earlier, in June this year, the Lam Dong rowing team also won a gold medal in the men's four-person rowing event at the National Outstanding Rowers Championships in Ninh Binh. The team consisted of athletes Huynh Quang Phu, Nguyen Tuong, Nguyen Quoc Hai and Phan Van Phin.
The Lam Dong rowing team currently has 44 members, organized into three tiers: the senior team, junior team and talent development squad.
