Community Partnership Brings Light to Border Roads

In late July, the "Lighting the Border" project officially put nearly 100 solar-powered streetlights into operation, illuminating 2.7 kilometers of inter-village roads in Bu Dar, Bu Krak and Bu Nung villages of Quang Truc Commune.

The project, valued at nearly VND 200 million, was jointly implemented by several universities in Ho Chi Minh City and local authorities as part of the 2026 Green Summer Volunteer Campaign.

Throughout the construction period, student volunteers, youth union members, local officials, armed forces personnel and residents worked side by side to install the lighting system.

Within a short period, nearly 100 light poles were installed and put into service, significantly improving nighttime travel and daily activities for residents while enhancing connectivity between border villages.

Captain Nguyen Minh Cuong, Head of the Mass Mobilization Team at Dak Dang Border Guard Station under the Lam Dong Provincial Border Guard Command, said officers and youth union members at the station had worked closely with local authorities and residents to install the lighting system, demonstrating the spirit of youth volunteerism..

These solar-powered streetlights do more than illuminate rural roads. They also support functional forces in safeguarding national sovereignty and maintaining security along the national border.

Launched in 2025, the initiative has expanded solar-powered lighting to numerous roads throughout Quang Truc Commune. Notably, all construction and installation costs have been financed through socialized funding from organizations, businesses and community contributors.

This approach has not only reduced pressure on the public budget but also strengthened community participation in improving infrastructure and living conditions across the border area.

Dieu Cuong, Deputy Head of Bu Nung Village, shared: “The solar-powered streetlights along both sides of the road have made travel much safer, especially during the harvest season. We will work together to protect this project, contributing to rural development and safeguarding border security.”

Lighting the Way to Sustainable Border Development

Thanks to the collective support of individuals and organizations, the "Lighting the Border" initiative has now illuminated more than 35 kilometers of roads across Quang Truc Commune. The project has helped reshape the appearance of the border area, improve residents' quality of life and strengthen local security and public order.

Doan Le Anh, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Quang Truc Commune, said each lighting system installed reflects the shared commitment of the political system and the wider community to improving living conditions for border residents.

“This is a truly meaningful project. It lights up border roads and makes travel safer for local people. Every lamp installed represents solidarity and community responsibility, while fostering confidence and aspirations for the future development of Quang Truc’s border region,” he said.
