Lam Dong joins plenary session of the 33rd Diplomatic Conference

Lam Dong Province joined the plenary session on Party diplomacy and people-to-people diplomacy at Vietnam's 33rd Diplomatic Conference on August 5, reaffirming its commitment to expanding international cooperation in line with the country's foreign policy priorities.

The session was held in a hybrid format, connecting central government agencies with ministries, sectors and local authorities nationwide.

At the central venue, Tran Cam Tu, Politburo Member and Permanent Member of the Party Central Committee Secretariat, delivered the keynote address. The session was chaired by Le Hoai Trung, Politburo Member and Minister of Foreign Affairs, with the participation of leaders from central agencies, ministries and local governments.

At the Lam Dong venue, Nguyen Minh, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, chaired the provincial delegation, joined by representatives from provincial departments and agencies.

Foreign affairs remains a strategic pillar

Delegates heard presentations from central agencies, local governments, Vietnamese diplomatic missions overseas and friendship organizations. Discussions focused on reviewing recent foreign affairs achievements while identifying priorities for expanding international cooperation and promoting Vietnam's image during the country's new stage of development.

In his address, Permanent Member of the Party Central Committee Secretariat Tran Cam Tu said Vietnam's foreign affairs had achieved comprehensive results in recent years, helping deepen the country's external relations across its three diplomatic pillars: Party diplomacy, State diplomacy and people-to-people diplomacy.

He emphasized that foreign affairs plays a strategic role in national development and safeguarding national interests, calling on the entire political system to adopt new approaches and strengthen coordination in foreign affairs.

He urged ministries, agencies and local authorities to effectively implement the major foreign affairs priorities outlined by General Secretary and State President To Lam, making diplomacy a shared responsibility of the Party, the armed forces, the people and the entire political system.

Expanding international cooperation and development partnerships

Permanent Member of the Party Central Committee Secretariat Tran Cam Tu also called for stronger awareness of the importance of Party diplomacy and people-to-people diplomacy, while encouraging authorities to proactively identify and address risks that could affect national interests.

He stressed the need to attract high-quality human resources, advanced technologies and investment that can deliver tangible development outcomes.

Regarding Party diplomacy, he called for broader and deeper ties with political parties around the world, particularly ruling parties, through high-level exchanges, comprehensive cooperation and enhanced strategic coordination.

For people-to-people diplomacy, local authorities and organizations were encouraged to shift from traditional friendship exchanges toward practical development cooperation by strengthening the role of businesses, local communities and overseas Vietnamese.

He also urged greater participation in international forums while continuing efforts to promote Vietnam's image globally.

Building a modern diplomatic service

The Permanent Member of the Party Central Committee Secretariat requested the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to continue strengthening Party building within the diplomatic sector and developing a professional diplomatic workforce with strong political commitment, high professional competence and an unwavering focus on national interests.

Personnel recruitment, training and promotion, he said, should be based on performance and the demands of Vietnam's new development phase.

Concluding his remarks, Tran Cam Tu expressed confidence that Vietnam's diplomatic sector would continue to innovate, strengthen its capacity and uphold its pioneering role in national development.

The outcomes of the 33rd Diplomatic Conference will soon be translated into concrete action programs, enabling Vietnam's diplomatic sector to further reinforce its pioneering role in foreign affairs and contribute to achieving the country's development goals in the new era.
