Construction is progressing around the clock at two boarding schools for ethnic minority students in Thuan An and Quang Truc communes, Lam Dong Province, as contractors race to complete the projects in time for the 2026–2027 academic year.

Construction sites remain brightly lit through the night

After 8 p.m., darkness envelops Thuan An Commune, but the grounds of Thuan An Boarding Primary and Lower Secondary School shine with the brightness of day. Beneath strong floodlights, hundreds of laborers persist with construction throughout the night, hurrying to meet the deadline for the project. The clamor of concrete mixers, cutting tools, hammers, and trucks delivering building materials merges into the unyielding rhythm of a construction site operating under significant time constraints.

For almost two months, construction worker Le Thi Tri has nearly forgotten the difference between day and night. She and many of her coworkers now reside on-site to utilize every available working hour. "We’re working around the clock. Regular rainfall and muddy roads occasionally hinder material trucks from accessing the site, but everyone is putting in their utmost effort," Tri mentioned.

Along with longer shifts, the contractor has consistently expanded its labor force to speed up the construction process. Nguyen Van Du, the leader of Team No. 17, reports that his team consists of 95 workers who alternate between day and night shifts. During peak periods, workers are paid promptly after finishing their overtime hours to motivate them to take on extra work, while additional skilled laborers are hired to mitigate delays caused by bad weather.

According to Nguyen Thanh Long, the site manager for the project, over 350 workers are currently present at the location, including about 200 skilled tradespeople. Despite the challenges posed by extended rainfall affecting the transport of building materials, the work has been efficiently organized to minimize disruptions.

"This project holds great importance. We are committed to finishing it on time while maintaining quality so that students can start the new academic year in their new school," Long remarked.

The Department of Education and Training reports that the Thuan An Boarding Primary and Lower Secondary School project has a total budget of nearly VND 226 billion. The construction is about 80% complete, with the structural framework already finalized, and the project is anticipated to be completed before August 15, 2026.

Determined to avoid delays

At Quang Truc Boarding Primary and Lower Secondary School in Quang Truc Commune, construction is moving forward with a strong sense of urgency. The project, which has a total funding of VND 240 billion, officially started in November 2025.

In addition to the construction efforts, local authorities and those in the education sector are hurrying to finalize all preparations so that both schools can start operating right after the handover. Student registration was completed by July 30, and each commune has mobilized about 100 volunteers from youth unions, women's associations, and other community groups to tidy up classrooms, dormitories, and school grounds before students arrive.

Priority should be given to mobilizing skilled workers and organizing construction efficiently under a phased completion approach, with essential facilities such as classrooms, dormitories and dining halls finished first.

At the same time, all necessary equipment, daily necessities, food supplies and school uniforms must be fully prepared to ensure students have the best possible learning and living conditions from their very first day at school
