Ahead of the new school year 2026-2027, the Lam Dong education sector is focusing on finalizing infrastructure, equipment, textbooks, and staffing, with a particular emphasis on accelerating the construction of border boarding schools to ensure learning conditions for students.

Focusing on school facilities and equipment

According to Phan Duc Thai, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, it is expected that by the beginning of the new school year 2026-2027, the entire province of Lam Dong will put into use approximately 250 classrooms, 200 subject-specific classrooms, and 50 multi-purpose halls, while also completing learning support blocks, auxiliary facilities, playgrounds, training grounds, and student living facilities.

In 2026, the Department of Education and Training allocated approximately 36 billion VND for the maintenance and repair of school facilities and the purchase and replacement of old equipment at subordinate educational institutions.

Regarding teaching equipment, the project to procure minimum equipment for 10th grade at high schools in the former Dak Nong and Binh Thuan regions has a total investment of about 143 billion VND. Additionally, two procurement packages for grades 1–5 and grades 6–9, with a total estimated budget of 250 billion VND, are being reviewed and finalized for submission to the competent authorities.

Investment resources for education have also been allocated significantly in the public investment plan. Communes, wards, and special economic zones act as investors for 115 tasks and projects in the field of education and vocational training, with a total investment of over 1.802 trillion VND; the 2026 capital plan has allocated nearly 658 billion VND. Provincial-level units act as investors for 30 tasks and projects, with a total investment of more than 1.711 trillion VND.

Alongside infrastructure, the preparation of textbooks and support measures for students is also identified by the education sector as an important task before the new school year.

Ensuring students have enough books and conditions to attend school

The Department of Education and Training requires units to coordinate with publishing enterprises to provide textbooks fully; to publicly disclose the list of books used, distribution locations, and selling prices; and to prohibit the bundling of products or forcing parents to buy reference materials or other products.

The total funding demand for implementing the policy of supporting textbooks in the province is expected to be over 151 billion VND. In the immediate future, the department proposes to allocate nearly 49.713 billion VND to purchase textbooks for the first phase for students at ethnic boarding and semi-boarding schools, students in 5 border communes, Phu Quy Special Economic Zone, and extremely difficult communes.

In the 2025-2026 school year, the entire province had 626,163 students exempt from tuition fees, with a total cost of nearly 461.9 billion VND; 107,328 students were supported with study costs, with a total cost of more than 133 billion VND.

Educational institutions continue to develop shared bookcases, textbook libraries, and movements to donate and exchange books between academic years, prioritizing support for ethnic minority students, students from poor or near-poor households, students with disabilities, and orphans to ensure no student lacks books due to economic hardship.

These policies not only help reduce cost pressure on families but also create conditions for students, especially in difficult areas, to maintain their schooling and have more opportunities to access education.

Racing to complete 2 border boarding schools

One of the key tasks of the new school year is to put 2 multi-level primary and secondary boarding schools in Quang Truc Commune and Thuan An Commune into operation, meeting the learning, accommodation, and living needs of about 1,770 students in border areas.

Thuan An Combined Boarding School (Primary & Lower Secondary) has completed about 85 percent of the workload.

Each school is allocated 50 staff quotas and 7 contract positions for professional and operational tasks. The education sector has coordinated with localities to consolidate management personnel, select teachers, arrange staff, organize training on boarding management, develop educational plans, arrange classes, assign teachers, and provide professional training for catering staff. However, the current pressure is focused on the construction completion schedule.

According to Vo Thanh Cuong, Deputy Director of the Department of Construction, the Thuan An multi-level primary and secondary boarding school has currently reached about 85 percent of the contract workload. The average number of workers is about 400 per day, but it still does not meet the progress requirements. The project still lacks about 30 skilled workers to complete the 2 dormitory blocks.

Regarding the school in Quang Truc Commune, the project started on November 9, 2025, and has so far reached 75 percent of the contract workload. Unfavorable weather and a shortage of workers are major difficulties for the project.

After receiving support from Military Region 7, the Provincial Military Command, and the Provincial Border Guard Command, the construction force has been supplemented with about 300 people. The total number of workers currently fluctuates between 800 and 850, of which about 70 percent are skilled, contributing to accelerating the construction progress.

However, the rainy season with continuous, prolonged rain has caused the construction site to be divided, affecting the implementation of technical infrastructure. Currently, 11 items are being implemented simultaneously in the finishing phase. The investor still needs to add about 200 skilled workers to meet the schedule.

According to Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Minh, the 2 projects in Quang Truc and Thuan An must be completed before August 30, 2026, to be ready for the new school year. He stressed that this is a mandatory task, requiring relevant units to mobilize human and material resources, organize construction reasonably, and handle difficulties that arise in a timely manner.

With tasks being urgently completed, the Lam Dong education sector aims to ensure the necessary conditions for the new school year to take place conveniently and safely. In particular, putting the border boarding schools into operation will contribute to creating a stable learning environment for students in border areas.
