Supporting Dreams for Orphans in a Border Community
Through the care and support of police officers, orphaned children in the border commune of Quang Truc have gained a stronger foundation to stay in school. This support gives them confidence to overcome hardship and pursue their dreams.
A Source of Support at the Border Community
Orphaned by both parents at the age of seven, Dieu Giap from Bu Sop Village was taken in and cared for by his maternal aunt, Thi Nhanh. With a large family of her own, however, Nhanh has faced many difficulties in providing for Giap. Without parental care, Giap's studies once declined. He became shy and frequently missed school.
In April 2024, the Quang Truc Commune Police began sponsoring Giap, providing essential support so that he could continue his education. Through contributions from police officers, the commune police provide him with VND 1 million each month. Officers are also assigned to visit him regularly, encourage him, support his studies and provide timely assistance whenever he faces difficulties.
After more than two years of support, Giap has made significant progress. He now attends school regularly, his academic performance has gradually improved, and he has become more open and confident.
"Since Giap began receiving support from the commune police, my family has been relieved of part of the burden of caring for him. Police officers regularly visit, encourage him, purchase books and school supplies, and pay close attention to his education. As a result, Giap has become more diligent and confident, bringing great joy to the family", Thi Nhanh said
Dieu Giap is one of eight disadvantaged children in the border commune of Quang Truc sponsored by the commune police. In March 2024, the Quang Truc Commune Police launched the community outreach initiative “Supporting Disadvantaged Children in Border Areas.”
After reviewing children's circumstances in local villages, the commune police selected eight children for regular support. Three had lost both parents, while five had lost one parent. Monthly assistance ranges from VND 500,000 to VND 1 million per child, depending on individual circumstances. To date, the children have received more than VND 159 million in support.
In addition to regular assistance, the Quang Truc Commune Police have mobilized organizations, individuals and donors both inside and outside the locality to support the children. Through social contributions, hundreds of gifts worth approximately VND 200 million have been presented on the Lunar New Year, International Children's Day, Mid-Autumn Festival and at the beginning of new school years.
Every month, police officers visit the children's families, check on their circumstances and coordinate with schools to monitor their studies and development. They also provide guidance on life skills, awareness of legal compliance and ways to prevent risks that could affect the children's development.
Although they cannot replace the love of parents, these uniformed sponsors have become a trusted source of support, helping fill part of the emotional void and giving the children greater confidence to remain in school and pursue their dreams.
Spreading Responsibility for Orphaned Children
Through the responsible and compassionate efforts of officers from the Quang Truc Commune Police, orphaned children have been able to stay in school and grow up with the care and protection of the community.
The effectiveness of the initiative is reflected in changes in the children's daily lives and education. All have remained in school, with no cases of dropping out. Many have made positive progress in both academic performance and personal development.
Teacher Dao Thi Thu Huong of Ama Trang Luong Primary School said two of her students, Dieu Giap and Thi Bao Tram, had both lost their parents. During the previous school year, they made considerable progress, becoming more confident and active. They attended school regularly, interacted well with classmates and showed greater effort in their studies.
The “Supporting Disadvantaged Children in Border Areas” initiative launched by the Quang Truc Commune Police reflects a strong humanitarian spirit while affirming the social responsibility of the People's Public Security force under the principle of “leaving no one behind.”
Through practical actions, police officers are putting the study and practice of President Ho Chi Minh's thought, morality and style into concrete work, contributing to the image of police officers who are courageous, humane and devoted to serving the people.
The commune police will continue to accompany the eight children until they reach adulthood. We will also review and support additional disadvantaged cases and advise Party committees and local authorities on mobilizing the strength of the entire political system to sustain and expand the initiative, ensuring that no disadvantaged child is left behind.

Through concrete actions, the “Supporting Disadvantaged Children in Border Areas” initiative in Quang Truc has brought hope for a brighter future to children facing difficult circumstances. It also strengthens the image of People's Public Security officers who are not only committed to maintaining security and public order but also compassionate and responsible in everyday life.
