Lam Dong Urges Faster Preparations for Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark Revalidation
Preparations for the 2027 revalidation of Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark in Lam Dong are reportedly behind schedule, particularly tasks requiring regular and continuous implementation.
Accelerating Preparations for the 2027 Revalidation
The Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee has issued a document urging agencies and local authorities to urgently implement tasks related to the 2027 revalidation of Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark.
Previously, the provincial People's Committee issued Plan No. 11583/KH-UBND, assigning specific responsibilities to ensure the conditions necessary for the UNESCO expert mission to conduct the geopark's revalidation.
However, according to a report by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, implementation remains behind schedule and has yet to meet requirements, particularly for tasks that require regular attention and inter-agency coordination.
To address the situation, the provincial People's Committee has instructed the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to regularly monitor and consolidate progress reports, while strengthening professional guidance, organizing technical training, and standardizing the geopark's presentation materials and visual identity.
The department is also tasked with studying lessons from geoparks that have successfully undergone revalidation in order to advise on the most effective preparation plan.

For relevant departments, agencies and local authorities, the provincial People's Committee has requested a comprehensive review of all assigned tasks. Delayed or overdue work must have its causes identified, with clear timelines and solutions to resolve outstanding issues while avoiding superficial implementation or failures to fulfil assigned responsibilities.
Lam Dong has also instructed relevant agencies to prioritize funding for urgent items, improve the landscape and ensure safety for visitors.
Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark is known for its extensive volcanic cave system, considered the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia, as well as its diverse cultural heritage. In 2020, the area was recognized by UNESCO as a Global Geopark.
During the periodic revalidation in June 2023, the geopark met the criteria for conservation and sustainable development and received a “Green Card” in September 2023, allowing it to retain its UNESCO Global Geopark status for the 2024–2027 period.
