A Bright Example in the Chess Movement
With passion and persistent training, Tran Thai Ha, a student at Luong Son Secondary School, won two individual U15 gold medals in the rapid and blitz events at the 8th Central and Central Highlands Open Youth Chess Championship 2026.
Passion and Outstanding Achievements
The Vietnam Chess Federation, in partnership with the Gia Lai Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, hosted the 8th Central and Central Highlands Open Youth Chess Championship 2026 in Quy Nhon Ward at the end of July.
Over 700 participants from 32 provinces and cities, along with chess clubs throughout the Central and Central Highlands, took part in the event. Competitors engaged in three formats — rapid, blitz, and bullet chess — across different age categories, resulting in a large, high-quality, and highly competitive tournament.
Representing the Lam Dong provincial chess team, 14-year-old Tran Thai Ha, a student in Class 8A1 at Luong Son Secondary School, approached each match with assurance, poise, and determination. Although she encountered numerous strong competitors from regions known for their well-established chess programs, Ha maintained her focus, displayed sharp tactical skills and adaptable strategies, consistently achieving impressive outcomes.
Following two days of competition in the rapid and blitz categories, Tran Thai Ha secured two individual gold medals in the U15 division, establishing herself as one of the standout players for the Lam Dong team. Her two gold medals significantly contributed to the overall medal tally of the Lam Dong chess team, which totaled 25 medals — comprising five gold, five silver, and 15 bronze — underscoring the strength of Lam Dong chess at this year's tournament.
A Journey of Training and Dedication
The accomplishments of Tran Thai Ha are supported by a demanding training regimen. After school hours, she dedicates her time to studying chess strategies, practicing with her coach, and participating in tournaments to gather experience.
“For me, each tournament presents a chance to learn and improve. I strive to remain composed and self-assured during matches and focus on addressing my weaknesses. I am thankful to my parents, teachers, and coach for their constant support and encouragement. These successes inspire me to keep studying, training, and aiming for greater goals,” Tran Thai Ha expressed.
Aside from her accomplishments in chess, Tran Thai Ha is also a dedicated and respectful student who takes her education seriously and engages actively in school events. She works hard to find a balance between her academic responsibilities and sports training, considering both as sources of inspiration to better herself each day.
At Luong Son Secondary School, Tran Thai Ha’s successes bring immense pride and illustrate the school's commitment to recognizing and nurturing gifted students, while providing favourable conditions for them to develop their knowledge, skills, and physical health.
Her achievements also serve as further encouragement for both academic and athletic pursuits at the school to continue thriving.
Nguyen Thi My Trang, the homeroom teacher for Class 8A1, described Thai Ha as well-mannered, courteous, self-disciplined, and diligent in her studies. Even with regular training and competition commitments, she effectively organizes her time to finish her school assignments, maintain good relationships with her classmates, and actively engage in school activities.
Thai Ha’s accomplishments are a source of pride for her family and school, and they serve as an example for her fellow students to emulate.
With her talent and perseverance, Tran Thai Ha is anticipated to achieve even more success, bringing honor to her hometown of Luong Son in Lam Dong Province. Her journey also acts as a source of inspiration for students to confidently pursue their dreams while continuing to learn and grow.
