Lam Dong Female Athlete Wins Gold at World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships
Lam Dong athlete Nguyen Thi Le Kim has won a gold medal in the U50 mixed-pair standard poomsae event at the 2026 World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships, currently taking place in Chuncheon, South Korea.
According to the latest information from the Lam Dong Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center, Nguyen Thi Le Kim, an athlete on Lam Dong Province’s roster, and Nguyen Thien Phung of Ho Chi Minh City have won a gold medal for the Vietnamese national team at the 2026 World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships.
Le Kim and Thien Phung competed in the U50 mixed-pair standard poomsae event. The event is highly demanding, requiring precision in every movement as well as close synchronization between the two athletes in rhythm, movement direction, stances and the timing of the final movement.
A total of 27 pairs competed in the event. Le Kim and Thien Phung delivered outstanding performances, successively defeating opponents from Myanmar, Chinese Taipei, Türkiye and Iran to advance to the final.
In the final, Le Kim and Thien Phung maintained their consistency and delivered a precise poomsae performance to defeat Denmark’s Charlotte Pedersen and Benjamin Harder, securing the gold medal.
In addition, Lam Dong Taekwondo athlete Nguyen Thi Kim Ha and her teammates won a bronze medal for the Vietnamese Taekwondo team.
The 2026 World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships takes place from September 16 to 20, bringing together 1,411 athletes from 83 countries and territories to compete in 42 medal events. It is one of the largest and most prestigious competitions in world Taekwondo poomsae.
