Rose Growing Brings Stable Incomes to K'ho Families

These days, Ro Ong Sy La is busy tending his rose garden, which covers more than 1 hectare in Dan Kia residential quarter, Lang Biang - Da Lat Ward. Having just completed a harvest for the Vietnamese Women's Day market on October 20, he is now caring for the plants and preparing the next crop for Vietnamese Teachers' Day on November 20.

After nearly 2 decades in flower cultivation, the K'ho farmer says growing roses has provided his family with a stable income and regular employment for family members. It has also helped improve their living standards and gradually build up capital to expand production.

Thanks to flower growing, his family has been able to develop its livelihood and build a more prosperous life in their homeland.

Rose prices can fluctuate from one holiday season to another and from year to year. However, growing roses brings in more income than growing coffee. Besides my wife and me, all three of our children also grow roses.

Alongside families engaged in flower cultivation, many young K'ho people are capitalizing on the Da Lat flower brand to develop flower and foliage purchasing and supply businesses. This approach not only opens up new economic opportunities but also creates jobs for young people in their communities.

According to K’Thoai, the local flower and cut-foliage trade benefits from abundant supplies, a wide variety of products, good quality and reasonable prices.

Growing flowers and foliage has become a livelihood for many ethnic minority households in Lam Dong

Like other local flower and foliage traders, K’Thoai hopes the 2026 Da Lat Flower Festival will create more opportunities to establish business connections, find partners and expand markets.

These opportunities, she believes, can create additional livelihoods and boost incomes for local residents, particularly ethnic minority communities whose lives are closely tied to flower cultivation and trade.
